பரிந்தோம்பிப் பற்றற்றேம் என்பர் விருந்தோம்பி
வேள்வி தலைப்படா தார்.
(குறள் 88: விருந்தோம்பல் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
parindhOmbip patRatREm enbar virundhOmbi
vELvi thalaipaDA dhAr
parindhOmbip – Having accumulated wealth with a fanatic zeal and now lost it all
patRatREm enbar – will repent that they have none to support them
virundhOmbi – entertain guests by being hospitable
vELvi – the sacrifice that it is (the hospitablity)
thalaipaDAdhAr – those who were not hospitable (when they were busy making wealth).
Person that runs after money, things, and fame, accumulating everything in the relentless pursuit, and losing it all later, may become worried that there is none as a support line when the person had not been hospitable to the guests, as a bounden parallel duty, while busy making wealth; True to the worry, the person may most likely not have anybody to support too.
Persons of hospitable nature will have plenty of people that have benefited out of their benevolence, as well wishers that will care for them during lean times. Lacking that virtue of hospitality, even if they have immeasurable wealth, will not have friends or relatives close to them.
Living lacking hospitality while chasing wealth, mayend up with no support
When everything is lost and is no surprise as they have no friend’s rapport.

பரிந்தோம்பிப் – பாடுபட்டு நிலையாப்பொருளுக்காய் அலைந்து திரிந்து, சேர்த்து பின் அதனை இழந்து
பற்றற்றேம் என்பர் – எனக்குப் பற்றுக்கோடு எனச் சொல்ல ஒருவரும் இல்லை என்று வருந்துவர்.
விருந்தோம்பி – இல்லத்தில் விருந்தோம்புதல் என்கிற
வேள்வி – யாகத்தை
தலைப்படாதார் – செய்ய முற்படாதார்,
பணத்துக்காய், பொருளுக்காய், புகழுக்காய் ஓடி அலைந்து திரிந்து தேடிச் சேர்க்கின்ற ஒருவர் அவற்றையெல்லாம் விதிவசத்தாலோ, அவர்களின் வினையாற்றல் பயனாலோ இழந்தபின், தனக்கு பற்றுக்கோடாக ஒருவருமில்லை என வருந்துவர் விருந்தோம்பல் என்கிற யாகமாகச் செய்து அதன்கண் வரும் நல்வினைப் பயனை அடையாதவர்.
விருந்தோம்பும் பண்பு நிறைந்தவர்களுக்கு, எத்துணையோ நலம்விரும்பிகளும், அவர்களுக்கு துன்பம் நேர்கையில் அவர்களுக்கு உதவுபவர்களும் இருப்பர். அப்பண்பு இல்லாதவர்கள் செல்வந்தர்களாக இருந்தாலும், நண்பர்களும் இரார். சுற்றமும் விலகியே இருக்கும். வேள்வி என்றது, வேள்வியின் பயனாகிய புண்ணியம் பிறர் உதவி என்ற வடிவில் உரிய காலத்தில் வரும் என்பதற்காகத்தான்.
