அறஞ்சொல்லும் நெஞ்சத்தான் அன்மை புறஞ்சொல்லும்
புன்மையாற் காணப் படும்..
(குறள் 185: புறங்கூறாமை அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
aRanjchollum nenjaththAn anmai puRanjchollum
punmaiyAR kANappaDum
aRanjchollum – Speaking about virtues
nenjaththAn – from heart
anmai – is not there
puRanjchollum – one who speaks slanderous (of others)
punmaiyAR – people of small mindedness
kANappaDum – shall be seen.
By just looking at a person’s deeds we can judge if the person has good character and is virtuous. It is easy to surmise that a person is not committed to speaking or being virtuously based on their slanderous behavior. For those who slander others, they do it for personal gains, or jealousy or covetousness. Such persons will be devoid of purity of heart. They can not think or be virtuous.
“Slanderous small mindedness shall reveal
The uncommitted heart for virtuous appeal”
தமிழிலே:
அறஞ்சொல்லும் – அறவழிகளினை அறிந்து பேசும்
நெஞ்சத்தான் – மனமுடையராக
அன்மை – ஒருவர் இல்லாமல் இருத்தல்
புறஞ்சொல்லும் – மற்றவர்களைப் பற்றி புறந்தூற்றூம்
புன்மையாற் – இழிமனத்தாலே
காணப்படும் – அறியப்படும்
ஒருவர் அறவழிகளினை அறிந்து பேசும், நடக்கும் இயல்பில்லார் என்று அவரது புறங்கூறும் இழிமனமும் அவ்வாறு அவர் செயல்படுதலையும் வைத்தே அறிந்து கொள்ளமுடியும். புறஞ்சொல்லுவாருக்கு அது பொறாமை மற்றும் பிறர்பொருள் கவருதல் காரணமாக அல்லது தனக்குப் பயனுறும் என்கிற ஒரு சுயநலங்காரணமாக அல்லது மற்றவர் வாழ்வதைக் கண்டு பொறாத மனத்தினாலே வருவது. அவர்களுக்கு மனத்தூய்மை இராது. அறவழிகளைச் சிந்திப்பதோ, அவ்வழி நடப்பதோ, அவர்களுக்கியலாது.

புறந்தூற்றும் புன்மதியால் காண்கும் மனதால்
