குறளின் குரல் – 217

தீயவை செய்தார் கெடுதல் நிழல்தன்னை

வீயாது அடிஉறைந் தற்று.

               (குறள் 208: தீவினையச்சம் அதிகாரம்)

Transliteration:

thIyavai seydhAr keDudhal nizhalthannai

vIyadhu aDi uRaindhaRRu

thIyavai seydhAr – those who do evil/sinful deeds for others

keDudhal – how their destruction will come (he implies it is certain) is like

nizhalthannai – their shadow

vIyadhu – without leaving them

aDi – follows their feet as an attachement

uRaindhaRRu – and will stay with them

A person’s shadow follows attached to the footsteps of the person. Whether the shadow follows or goes in front or comes along side of us, depends on if the sun is behind or, before or directly above us. This can be compared to the repurcussions of ones own deeds in the past, future and the present. However small the shadow is, it definitely comes with us.

The deeds of past show beore us, the deeds of future will follow us behind and the deeds of the present, at least to a small extent will come with us. These are some of the connotations we infer from our own shadows.

This verse says, a person’s sinful deeds towards somebody will come with the person, as would the shadow attached to the feet without leaving, and destroy the person. The comparison is meaningful only to the extent that a person’s shadow following the person without leaving. But the destruction of the person because of the bad deeds,is only a further inference.

“As the shadow follows a person without leaving,

 So, will the destruction of sinful deeds following”

தீயவை செய்தார் –  பிறருக்கு தீவினைகளைச் செய்பவர்கள்

கெடுதல் – அவர்கள் கெடுவது (இதை உறுதிப்பாடாகக் கூறுகிறார்) எவ்வாறு எனில்

நிழல்தன்னை – ஒருவருடைய நிழலானது

வீயாது – அவரைவிட்டு நீங்காது

அடி – அவருடைய அடியை ஒற்றியே

உறைந்தற்று – தங்கிவிடும் தன்மையப்போன்றது

ஒருவருடைய நிழலானது அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தே அவரது அடியை ஒற்றியே முன்னும், பின்னும், பக்கவாட்டிலும் வருவது வெயிலின் எப்பக்கம் நாம் நடக்கிறோம் என்பதைப் பொருத்து. நம் பின்னால் இருக்கும் சூரிய ஒளி முன்னாலும், முன்னால் இருக்கும் சூரிய ஒளி பின்னாலும், தலைக்கு மேல் இருக்கும் சூரிய ஒளி பக்கவாட்டிலும் நிழலாக இருப்பதைப் பார்க்கலாம். இவையே நம்வாழ்வில் நம் வினைகளின் தொடர்பையும் நமக்கு காட்டுவதாகவும் அமைகின்றன. நிழல் சிறிதாயினும் நீங்காமையும், முன்வினை நமக்கு முனவந்து காட்டுதலையும், இன்றைய வினைகள் நம்முடனே சிறிதளவாகிலும் கூட வருவதையும், இப்பிறப்பில் செய்யவிருக்கும் வினைப்பயன்கள் பின்னால் நிழலாகத் தொடருவதையும் நமக்கு உணர்த்துவன்.

இக்குறளின் கருத்தும் அதுதான். ஒருவர் பிறருக்குச் செய்யும் தீவினைகள் அவரை நிழலாகத் தொடர்ந்து அவரது அடியை ஒட்டியே வரும் நிழல் போல தொடர்ந்து வந்து அழிக்கும் என்று இக்குறள் கூறுகிறது. அகநானூற்று வரியான, “செல்வுழிச் செல்வுழி மெய்ந்நிழற் போல” என்பதும்,  கலித்தொகை பாடல் வரியான் “நிழல்போற்றிரி தருவாய் என்னீ பெறாததீதென்”  என்பதும் நிழல் நம்மைத் தொடர்ந்து வருதலை குறிப்பதாகிய அறிவியல் உண்மையை உணர்த்தும் சங்கப்பாடல்கள்.

முழுக்கருத்தையும் சொல்லும் பாடலாக , “செற்றொருவரைச் செய்த தீமைகள் இம்மையே வரும் திண்ணமே” சுந்தரரின் தேவாராப்பாடலைச் சொல்லலாம்.

இங்கு ஒப்புமையாக சொல்லப்பட்ட நிழல் ஒருவரைத் நீங்காமல் தொடர்வதுபோல தீவினைப்பயன் நீங்காமல் தொடர்வதும் சரியானதுதான் என்றாலும்,  அதனால் அழிவு வரும் எனப்பட்டது, மேலும் கொண்டு கூட்டிக்கொள்ளப்பட்டது,

இன்றைய குறள்:

நீங்கா நிழலடிகீழ் போல்தீ வினையார்க்கு

நீங்காக் கெடுதல் வரும்
