ஊருணி நீர்நிறைந் தற்றே உலகவாம்

Transliteration:
UruNi nIrniRain dhaRRE ulagavAm
pEraRi vALAn thiru
Ur uNi nIr – The water that is drunk by the people of town
niRaindhaRRE – pond or water tank that is filled with (water)
ulagavAm – doing the what the world does
pEraRivALAn – person of eminent knowledge
thiru – wealth
The wealth of a person who is benevolent, as the world would desire such person to be, is like a public water tank in the town, which is filled to the brim with water for people of town to benefit. The water tank or pond is common to the people of town; is used by people that are in need of water. Similarly the wealth of a wealthy person is to serve the needy. The wealthy people with the understanding that their wealth is to serve the needy are considered people with great knowledge as they understand the true use of, and have the real knowledge about, wealth.

தமிழிலே:
ஊர் உணி நீர் – ஊரிலே வாழ்பவர் உண்ணும் (குடிக்கின்ற) நீர்
நிறைந்தற்றே – நிறைந்த குளம் போலும்
உலகவாம் – உலக நடையாம் பிறர்க்குதவும் ஒப்புரவை விரும்பிச் செய்யும்
பேரறிவாளன் – பெரிய அறிவினை உடையவனது
திரு – செல்வம்
உலகம் விரும்புகிற ஒப்புரவை விரும்பிச் செய்யும் ஒருவரின் செல்வமானது, ஊர் மக்கள் உண்ணுமளவுக்கு நிறைந்திருக்கும் குளத்தினளவு நிறைந்திருக்கும், குளத்து நீர் முகந்து செல்பவர்களுக்கு உளதாகையால், ஒப்புரவாளரின் செல்வமும், யாருக்கு உதவி தேவையோ அவர்கள் அடைவதற்கு ஏதுவானது.
இக்குறளால், உள்ளோரின் செல்வம் ஊருக்குப் பயனாக வேண்டுமென்று அறிவுறுத்தப்படுகிறது. உள்ளவரெல்லாமே ஊருக்கு உதவுவது இல்லையாதலால், செல்வருக்கு அழகு செழுங்கிளை தாங்குதல் என்பதற்கு ஏற்ப, ஊரில் யாருக்கெல்லாம் உதவி தேவையோ, அவர்களையெல்லாம் தன்னுடைய செழுங்கிளையாகக் கருதுகின்ற, செல்வத்தின் பயனே இயலாத இல்லாதவர்களுக்க உதவத்தான் என்னும் அறிவை உடையவர்களை பேரறிவார்களாகச் சொல்லி, அவர்களுக்கே இது இயலும் என்று உணர்த்துகிறார்.
