புக்கில் அமைந்தின்று கொல்லோ உடம்பினுள்
துச்சில் இருந்த உயிர்க்கு.
(குறள் 340: நிலையாமை அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
Pukkil amaindhinRu koLLo udambinUL
Thuchchil irundha uyirkku
Pukkil – an abode to reside
amaindhinRu koLLo – has not been attained?
udambinUL – Inside the body,
Thuchchil irundha – residing in a corner
Uyirkku – the soul
“Doesn’t the life that sticks to a corner of this body, have a permanent abode to park itself? – asks vaLLuvar in this verse. It is not a question here, but wonderment at the impermanence of the body. Since the body is impermanent, the soul it carries also does not have a permanent place. Even if it can be argued that when a body perishes, soul transcends to another life, we need to look at the question carefully. It is about the permanence of abode for the soul too not its vagabond state.
Does n’t the soul that has a transient body to hide
Have a permanent abode for it to always reside?

புக்கில் – வாழ்வதற்கு ஏற்ற வீடொன்று
அமைந்தின்று கொல்லோ – அமையவில்லை போலும்
உடம்பினுள் – உடம்பினுள்ளாக
துச்சில் இருந்த – ஒரு மூலையில் இருந்து, பிரிந்த
உயிர்க்கு – உயிர்க்கு
உடம்பின் ஒரு மூலையில் ஒட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்த உயிருக்கு தாம் புகுந்து நிரந்தரமாக வசிக்க ஓரில்லம் அமையாமல் போனதோ? இது கேள்வியாகக் கேட்கப்படவில்லை. ஒரு வியப்பாக முன்வைக்கப்படுகிறது. இதனால் இவ்வுலகில் உடலின் நிலையாமையையும். உடலில்லாமையினால் உயிருக்கு ஒரு நிலையான இல்லம் இல்லாமல் போனதையும் இக்குறள் குறிக்கிறது. உடலழிந்து உயிர் வேறுடலைப் புகுவதாகக் கொண்டாலும், அவ்வுயிருக்கும் ஒரிடம் நிலையில்லை என்கிற நிலையாமையைத்தான் இக்குறள் காட்டுகிறது. இவ்வதிகாரத்தின் இறுதிக்குறளாம் இக்குறளில் நிலையாமையை உணரும் உயிருக்கே நிலையில்லாத இடமென்ற நிலையைச் சொல்லி, நிலையாமையின் வலிமையைச் சொல்லி நிறைவு செய்கிறார் வள்ளுவர்.

அருவமதாய் ஆகும் உயிர்க்கு?
