வேண்டின்உண் டாகத் துறக்க துறந்தபின்

Transliteration:
vEnDinuN DAgath thuRakka thuRandhapin
INDuiyaR pAla pala
vEnDin – if legitimate and genuine pleasures are desired,
uNDAgath – to get those
thuRakka – must forego all wordly desires.
thuRandhapin – when worldly desires are renounced
INDu – in this birth itself
iyaRpAla pala – there are many legitimate and genuine pleasures to attain.
It may seem that this verse speaks of contradicting things. If someone desires genuine pleasures to attain, they must renounce the worldly pleasures and the desires of the senses. When they do so, all genuine pleasures to be attained in this world will automatically come to them. Now the question is, what could be those genuine desires for someone who has renounced the worldly pleasures? As such they are renounced and devoid of desires of worldly pleasures and are in the pursuit of higher truth. Perhaps the genuine desire of them would be to reach the Godhead and a perpetual blissful state. Only those who are devoid of desires can attain such blissful state.
If all the genuine desires and pleasures need to be attained
One must renounce the worldly desires of senses, contained.

வேண்டின் – முறையான இன்பங்களை விரும்பினால்
உண்டாகத் – அவைகள் வந்து சேர
துறக்க – ஆசைகளைத் துறந்து விடுக
துறந்தபின் – அப்படித் துறந்தபின்
ஈண்டு – இம்மையிலேயே (வந்துறும்)
ஈண்டு – இம்மையிலேயே (வந்துறும்)
இயற்பால பல – முறையான இன்பங்கள் பல உள்ளன
இக்குறள் முரணாகப் பேசுவதுபோல் தோன்றக்கூடியது. முறைமையான இன்பங்களை ஒருவர் வேண்டினால், அவர்கள் உலகியல் சார்ந்த, புலன்கள் சார்ந்த பற்றுகளை விட்டுவிட வேண்டும். அப்படி விட்டுவிட்டவர்களுக்கு, இவ்வுலகின் கண்ணே பெறக்கூடிய பல இன்பங்களும் வந்துறும். உலகியல் ஆசைகளை விட்டவர்களுக்கு இவ்வுலகிலேயே எய்தக்கூடியவை எவையாக இருக்கமுடியும்? அவர்களோ வேண்டுதல் வேண்டாமை இலானடி சேரும் வழியிலே இருப்பவர்கள், அவர்களுக்கு வேண்டுவது யாது? அவர்களுக்கு இன்பமும், வேண்டுவது, உயர்பொருளை அடைந்து உய்வது ஒன்றே! ஆசையற்றவர்களுக்கே அத்தகைய ஞான வெளிச்சம் கிடைக்கும், அவர்கள் வேண்டுவது அது ஒன்று மட்டும்தான்.
