வருமுன்னர்க் காவாதான் வாழ்க்கை எரிமுன்னர்
வைத்தாறு போலக் கெடும்.
(குறள் 435: குற்றம் கடிதல்அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
Varumunnar kAvAdhAn vAzhkkai erimunnar
vaiththARu pOlak keDum
Varumunnar – Before happening (fault)
kAvAdhAn – not having the capacity to prevent fault from happening
vAzhkkai – life of such person
erimunnar – kept before the fire
vaiththARupOlak – how the straw or hay stalk
keDum – will perish
This verse gives an impactful example that’s easy to understand for everyone that has seen the agrarian life in village sides. The hay stalk will burn and perish in no time when there is a small spark of a fire. Like wise, before even a small fault will perish somebody’s whole life. So one must save self before such destruction comes. Both fire and faults will burn and bring destruction. The wealth that the straw is will burn and perish beore the fire. So will the honor and life of a person who fails to prevent the fault from happening; hence one must safeguard self from such happenings before it happens.
“Whose life that does not prevent before facing fault’s aftermath
Shall perish as hay stalk would before the spark of fire’s wrath”
தமிழிலே:
வருமுன்னர்க் – நிகழ்வதற்கு முன்பாக (குற்றம்)
காவாதான் – அது வராமல் காத்துக்கொள்ளுகின்ற திறனில்லாதான்
வாழ்க்கை – வாழ்வானது
எரிமுன்னர் – தீயின் முன்பாக
வைத்தாறுபோலக் – வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கு வைக்கோற்போர் போல
கெடும் – அழியும் (எரிந்து சாம்பலாகி விடுவதுபோது)
எதைச்சொன்னால் எளிதில் புரியுமோ, அதனுடைய வீச்சும் ஆணி அடித்தார்போல மனங்களில் பதியுமோ, அத்தகைய மேற்கோளைச் சொல்லி, குற்றங்கடிதலைச் சொல்லுகிற குறள். தீமுன்பாக இருக்கிற வைக்கோற்போல் எரிந்து நீறாகப் போவதுபோல குற்றத்திலிருந்து அது நிகழுமுன்பாக காத்துக்கொள்ளாதாவருடைய வாழ்வும் அழிந்து கெடும் என்பதே இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து. தீயும் சுடும், தீயகுற்றங்களும் சுடும். அழிவு என்பது பெருஞ்செல்வத்துக்கும் நிகழும் சிறு பொறியினால் என்பது போல, சிறு குற்றமே ஆனாலும் கட்டிக்காத்துவந்த பெருமை, வாழ்வு இவற்றை முடிக்கும் தன்மையதாம் குற்றம்; அதனால் அவற்றிலிருந்து காத்துக்கொள்ளுதல் தேவையாகிறது.
