எள்ளாத எண்ணிச் செயல்வேண்டும் தம்மோடு
கொள்ளாத கொள்ளாது உலகு.
(குறள் 470: தெரிந்துசெயல்வகை அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
eLLAdha eNNich seyalvENdum thammODu
koLLAdha koLLAdu ulagu
eLLAdha – Without being the subject of blame or ridicule of the world
eNNich – one must think and
seyalvENdum – do the deeds
thammODu – (because) for the nature and ways of the world, or the person doing the deed
koLLAdha – acts contrary to the individual (an ordinary person or a ruler)
koLLAdu – (what is done) will not accept or approve
ulagu – this world
Though this last verse of the chapter is applicable in general to everyone, to the rulers it is even more important. An individual’s blame, redicule, will be his own and does not have any impact to others or the world; but, a ruler’s deeds tha bring blame, redicule will affect the whole nation. When a ruler does not do deeds that befit ruler’s disposition and stature, the world will not kindly take it; will be very unhappy. Hence a ruler must rule without the blame and ridicule by his citizens.

தமிழிலே:
எள்ளாத – உலகம் பழிக்காத வகையில்
எண்ணிச் – ஆராய்ந்து
செயல்வேண்டும் – செயலாற்ற வேண்டும்
தம்மோடு – (ஏனெனில்) தம்மியல்புக்கு (உலகோர் பொது இயல்புக்கு) அல்லது செய்பவர் இயல்புக்கு
கொள்ளாத – ஒவ்வாதவற்றுக்கு
கொள்ளாது – ஒப்பாது, உவக்காது
உலகு – இவ்வுலகம்
இவ்வதிகாரத்தின் இறுதிக்குறளான இக்குறள் எல்லோருக்கும் பொருந்துவதாயினும், ஆளுவோருக்கு இன்றியமையாததாம். ஏனெனின் தனியொருவரின் பழியும் கேலியும் அவருடனே தீரும். ஆனால் ஆள்வோரின் பழி நாட்டையும், நாட்டு மக்களையும் பாதிக்கும், பழிக்காளாக்கும், கேலிக்கு உரியோராக்கிவிடும். ஆள்வோர்க்கென்று சொல்லப்பட்ட இயல்புகளுக்கு ஒவ்வாதவற்றை செய்தால் உலகம் உவந்து ஏற்காது. எனவே உலகம் பழிக்காத, கேலிபேசாத வகையிலே ஆளுவோர் தம் செயல்களைச் செய்யவேண்டும்.

உலகொப்ப செய்கவா ராய்ந்து
