ஒல்வ தறிவது அறிந்ததன் கண்தங்கிச்
செல்வார்க்குச் செல்லாதது இல்.
(குறள் 472: வலி அறிதல் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
Olva dharivadhu aRindhadhan kaNthangich
chelvArkkuch chellAdhadhu il
Olvadh(u) – Knowing what is possible for self to do
arivadhu aRindh(u) – also understanding what strength is needed to do that
adhan kaNthangich – keeping the mind focused on the same
chelvArkkuch – for those who immerse themselves in the undertaken task
chellAdhadhu il – there is none that is impossible.
Before venturning into a task, which things have to be looked at, were mentioned in the previous verse. In this verse vaLLuvar points out how no task is impossible for someone. One must know what he can realistically accomplish; must understand what strengths are required to accomplish the same; then must keep the mind focused on the task and sustain the effort. For such persons, there is no task impossible to accomplish.
“None impossible for a person who is self aware of what he can accomplish;
the strength needed and keeping the mind focused to deliver with polish”
தமிழிலே:
ஒல்வ(து) – தமக்கு எவை இயன்றவற்றை அறிந்து
அறிவது அறிந்து – அவற்றைச் செய்வதற்கு வேண்டிய வலிமையையும் அறிந்து
அதன் கண்தங்கிச் – எப்போதும் அச்செயலின் கண்ணே தன்மனத்தை நிலையுறுத்தி
செல்வார்க்குச் – அச்செயலில் ஈடுபட்டிருப்பாருக்கு
செல்லாதது இல் – இயலாத செயல் ஒன்றும் இல்லை.
ஒரு செயலைச் செய்யப்புகுங்கால் எவற்றையெல்லாம் நோக்கவேண்டும் என்று போன குறளில் சொன்ன வள்ளுவர், யாருக்கு எச்செயலும் அருஞ்செயல் இல்லை என்று இக்குறளில் கூறுகிறார். ஒருவர் தம்மால் இயன்றவை எவை என்று அறியவேண்டும். தவிர, ஒரு செயலைச் செய்ய என்ன வலிமை தேவை என்பதையும் அறிந்திருக்க வேண்டும். பின்பு அச்செயலிலே முழு சிந்தனையையும் நிறுத்தி முனைப்புடல் செயலாற்ற வேண்டும். அப்படியிருப்பின் அவர்களால் இயலாத செயல் என்பதொன்றும் இல்லை.

தம்மால் இயன்றதில் வேண்டிய ஆற்றலோடு
செம்மையாய் செய்தால் சிறப்பு
