அளவறிந்து வாழாதான் வாழ்க்கை உளபோல
இல்லாகித் தோன்றாக் கெடும்.
(குறள் 479: வலி அறிதல் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
aLavarindhu vAzhAdhAn vAzhkkai uLapOla
illAgith thOnRAk keDum
aLavarindhu – the limits of what his wealth is
vAzhAdhAn – not knowing
vAzhkkai – such persons life
uLapOla – appear as if everything is there
illAgith – but in reality nothing is there
thOnRAk – eventually even such an appearance will not be there
keDum – and be in ruins
An often quoted one, this verse is about a very simple thought of knowing ones own limits in life to live the life successfully. A person should live based on his wealth and earnings. If he cannot do that then he will have a false sense of having everything (in reality might have lost everything too) and eventually, even such false sense will vanish and his living will render him in ruins.
If one lives the life, not knowing what his limits are based on own wealth
It gives false sense of having, finally really not having any, but minds’ myth.
தமிழிலே:
அளவறிந்து – தம்மிடம் உள்ள செல்வத்தின் அளவினை அறிந்து
வாழாதான் – அதற்கேற்ப வாழாதாரது
வாழ்க்கை – வாழ்க்கையானாது
உளபோல – எல்லாம் இருப்பது போன்ற பொய்த்தோற்றத்தை அவருக்கு அளித்து
இல்லாகித் – அது உண்மையிலே இல்லாமலிருந்தாலும்
தோன்றாக் – பிறகு அக்காட்சியும் பிழையாகிப் போய்
கெடும் – கெடும்.
இக்குறளின் கருத்து மிக எளிமையானது. பொதுவாக மேற்கோளாகக் காட்டப்படும் ஒன்றும் கூட. ஒருவன் தன்னிடம் உள்ள செல்வத்துக்கு ஏற்றவாறு வாழ வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு வாழாதவனுடைய வாழ்க்கையானது எல்லாம் இருப்பதுபோல பொய்த்தோற்றத்தை அளிக்கும் அவருக்கே. பிறகு அப்பொய்த் தோற்றமும் அழிந்துபோய், காட்சிப்பிழையெனவே ஆகிக் கெடும்.
