ஆக்கம் இழந்தேமென்று அல்லாவார் ஊக்கம்
ஒருவந்தம் கைத்துடை யார்.
(குறள் 593: ஊக்கமுடைமை அதிகாரம்)
ஆக்கம் – செல்வத்தினை
இழந்தேமென்று – இழந்துவிட்டோமே என்று
அல்லாவார் – அலமருதலும் நோதலும் கொள்ளாதவர்
ஊக்கம் – ஊக்கமாகிய முயற்சியை
ஒருவந்தம் – நிலையாக, உறுதியாக
கைத்துடையார் – தன் கையகத்தே கொண்டோர்
தளராத முயற்சியை தன் கையகத்தே உறுதியாகக் கொண்டோர், செல்வமுற்றும் இழப்பினும் அதுகாரணமாக அலமருதலும், நோதலும் கொள்ளார் என்னும் எளிய கருத்தைச் சொல்லி முயற்சியுடையார் இகழ்ச்சியடையார் என்னும் பழமொழிக் கருத்தை வலியச் சொல்லுகிறார் வள்ளுவர்.
செய்யும் செயல் யாவிலும் தளராமையை, விடாமுயற்சியான தாளாண்மையைக் கொள்வதை இக்குறள் உயர்த்துகிறது, உணர்த்துகிறது. தளருவது, உடலால் மட்டுமல்ல, பொருளாலுமென்பதையும் கொள்ளவேண்டும். சம்பந்தர் பெருமான் பக்தி செய்வதில் அத்தகைய உறுதியிலே நின்றதை, “இடறினும் தளரினும் எனதுறு நோய் தொடரினும் உனகழல் தொழுதெழுவேன்” என்று வரும் பதிகப்பாடல் குறிப்பதைக் காணலாம்.
Transliteration:
Akkam izandEmenRu allAvAr Ukkam
Oruvandam kaiththuDai yAr
Akkam – Wealth
izandEmenRu – that it has bee lost
allAvAr – those who don’t feel and become incapcitated
Ukkam – Energetic zeal
Oruvandam – permanently
kaiththuDaiyAr – have the grip of that (zeal) in their hand
The people of incessant energetic zeal will be undistressed in attitude even when the worst adverse situation of losing all wealth, says vaLLuvar in this verse. A Tamil adage says “muyaRchi uDaiyAr igazhchi aDayAr” – People of effort will never face defeat. This is the thought which is conveyed throughout this chapter, this verse being another way of saying the same.
Mos effort in this world is towards earning wealth, multiplying it as the world view things wealth can buy everything or is safety net. When that’s lost, most people feel that everything is lost. But people of relentless zest will not give up even in the worst situation of everything in their life. They are like Phoenix birds, know to raise from ashes.
“Those who never feel distressed that everything is lost
Are the people of relentless zeal never feeling aghast!”
