கடிந்த கடிந்தொரார் செய்தார்க்கு அவைதாம்
முடிந்தாலும் பீழை தரும்.
(குறள் 658: வினைத்தூய்மை அதிகாரம்)
கடிந்த – சாடி விலக்கியவற்றை (சான்றோர்கள் வேண்டாமென்றதை)
கடிந்(து) – விலக்கி
ஒரார் – ஒழியாது
செய்தார்க்கு – மேற்கொண்டு செய்து முடித்தார்க்கு
அவைதாம் – அச் செயல்கள்
முடிந்தாலும் – வெற்றிகரமாக முடிந்தாலும் (இது தோற்றப் பிழையே)
பீழை தரும். – முடிவில் துன்பத்தினையே தரும்
நூல்களை கற்றும், தம்முடைய அனுபவங்களைக் கொண்டும் சான்றோர்கள் இன்னவை கூடாதென்று சாடி விலக்கியவற்றை தாம் நீங்காது, செயல் மேற்கொண்டு, அவை வெற்றிகரமாக முடிந்ததுபோல் தோன்றினாலும், அவை இறுதியில் துன்பத்தையே தரும் என்பதே இக்குறள்.
இதுவும் அமைச்சர்களுக்கே பொதுவாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டாலும், வாழ்வில் எல்லோருக்கும் பொருந்துவதே. மற்றவர்கள் கற்றும், நுகர்ந்தும் கற்ற பாடங்களை தாம் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாது, தாம் எல்லாம் அறிந்தவர் போல செயல்பட்டு, சிலர் செயல்களைச் செய்வர். கேட்டால், காலங்கள் மாறிவிட்டன, தலைமுறைகள் மாறிவிட்டன, காலத்தோடு இயைந்துதான் நாங்கள் செயல்பட முடியும் என்று அனுபவ அறிவை பொருட்படுத்தாமல் செய்யும் சிலருக்கு தாம் மேற்கொண்டவற்றை வெற்றிகரமாக முடித்த உணர்வு ஏற்படலாம். ஆனால் அவைத் தோற்றப் பிழையே.
காலந்தோறும் மாறாது வருவது, கற்றறிவை, பட்டறிவை பொருட்படுத்தாமை என்கிற “தமக்குத் தெரியாதது ஒன்றுமில்லை” என்னும் அகந்தைப் பிழைதான். அறிவில் மந்தமில்லாவிடினும், மந்தைச் சிந்தனைகளைக் கொண்டவர்கள் புள்ளிவிவரங்களில் ஒன்றாக ஆகிவிடுவரே அன்றி, சாதிப்பது ஒன்றுமில்லை.
Transliteration:
kaDinda kaDindorAr seidArkku avaithAm
muDindAlum pizhai tharum
kaDinda – what were admonished and banished by wisemen
kaDind(u) – discarding those
orAr – not removing them from their acts
seidArkku – for such people, who go ahead and complete them
avaithAm – such acts
muDindAlum – though appear to be successful (a mirage vision)
pizhai tharum – will eventually will beget misery
If someone pursues on acts that are admonished and banished by wise with their knowledge and experience based on extensive reading of works on ethics and life, though at times, they appear to be successfully completed, they will only beget misery in the end, says this verse.
Though this is also said in the general context of ministerial pursuits and persons, is applicable to everyone in general. When people act as if what others have learned over the years and experienced are not applicable to their generation, defying good advice and cautions, they may merely get the temporary sense of accomplishment – an illusory one and eventually suffer because of their own acts.
What does not change with generations is this ignoring of scholarship of the learned and the experiences they bring in; being falsely self-assured and even bloated about their judgment because of arrogance of intelligence. Though they may be intelligenet, there is a danger of them being a statistic instead of being a standout personality, because of this.
