ஆங்கமை வெய்தியக் கண்ணும் பயமின்றே
வேந்தமை வில்லாத நாடு.
(குறள் 740: நாடு அதிகாரம்)
ஆங்கு அமை(வு) – அங்கே (நாடு) எல்லா வளங்களும்
எய்தியக் கண்ணும் – அடையப் பெற்றிருந்தும்
பயமின்றே – அவற்றால் யாதொரு பயனுமில்லை (ஏன்?)
வேந்து அமை(வு) – நல்ல ஆட்சித் தலைமை
இல்லாத நாடு – அமையப் பெறாத நாடு.
ஒரு நாடு எல்லா வளங்களையும் குறைவின்றி பெற்றிருந்தும், அவற்றால் யாதொரு பயனுமில்லை, ஒரு நல்ல ஆட்சித் தலைமை அமையாவிட்டால், என்று சொல்லி இவ்வதிகாரத்தை நிறைவு செய்கிறார் வள்ளுவர். “வேந்து அமைவு” என்பதால் அரசின் மேல் மக்களுக்கு உள்ள அன்பும், அரசுக்கு மக்கள்மேல் உள்ள பரிவும், கனிவும் உணர்த்தப்படுகிறது.
Transliteration:
Angamai veidhiyak kaNNum payaminRE
vEndhamai villAdha nADu
Ang(u) amaiv(u) – there (the nation) all prosperity
eidhiyak kaNNum – is there in it
payaminRE – it is of no use for anyone
vEndh(u) amaiv(u) – if the blessing of a good ruler
illAdha nADu – is not there for the nation.
Though a nation is bestowed with all prosperous possessions, they are of no use if the nation is not blessed with a capable and good ruling head to protect and grow the possessions! Saying thus, vaLLuvar completes this chapter. The word “vEndhu amaivu” implies mutual affection and care by both citizens and the ruler.
“Though all prosperous possessions are plenty in a nation
They are useless, if citizens have no ruler for their elation”
