ஒருமைச் செயலாற்றும் பேதை எழுமையும்
தான்புக் கழுந்தும் அளறு.
(குறள் 835: பேதைமை அதிகாரம்)
ஒருமைச் – ஒரு பிறப்பிலேயே
செயலாற்றும் – இயலக்கூடிய அத்துணை இழிவான செயல்களையும் செய்ய வல்லவர்கள்
பேதை – அறிவீனர்கள்
எழுமையும் – ஏழ் பிறப்பிலும்
தான் புக்கழுந்தும் – தாம் புக்கு மூழ்க
அளறு – நரகம் என்னும் சேற்றிலே
அறிவீனர்கள் தம்முடைய ஒரு பிறப்பிலேயே தாம் ஏழ் பிறப்பிலும் நரகம் என்னும் சேற்றிலே மூழ்கி அழுந்துவதற்கான அத்துணை இழிச்செயல்களையும் செய்ய வல்லவர்கள், என்கிறது இக்குறள். மீண்டும் ஒரு நையாண்டிக்குரலில், அறிவீனர்களின் இழிமையைச் சுட்டுகிற குறள். ஒருபிறப்பிலேயே மற்ற பிறவிகளுக்கும் சேர்த்து தவறான செயல்களைச் செய்துவிடும் வல்லமை கொண்டவர்கள் என்று இழிக்கிறது. அதனால் நரகமென்னும் சேற்றுப்புதையிலே அழுந்தவும் செய்வர் என்கிறது இக்குறள்.
Transliteration:
Orumaich cheyalARRum pEdhai ezhumaiyum
thAnpuk kazhundhum aLaRu.
Orumaich – In one birth itself
cheyalARRum – is capable of doing ill deeds,
pEdhai – a fool
ezhumaiyum – for the seven births
thAnpuk kazhundhum – to be buried in the
aLaRu – mire or slush of hell
Fools that lack intellect, are capable of indulging in all ill in one birth itself for them to be buried in the slush of a hell for seven births, says this verse. Another verse with sarcasm to point out the lowliness of idiocy! Lack of intellect is such a sinful posture is what is emphasized by this verse.
