கழாஅக்கால் பள்ளியுள் வைத்தற்றால் சான்றோர்
குழாஅத்துப் பேதை புகல்.
(குறள் 840: பேதைமை அதிகாரம்)
கழா அக்கால் – அசுத்தத்தை மிதித்துவிட்டு அந்த காலை
பள்ளியுள் – இன்பத்தைத் தரும் படுக்கையிலே
வைத்தற்றால் – வைத்ததுபோலேதான்
சான்றோர் – கற்றறிந்த அறிஞர்களின்
குழாஅத்துப் – குழுவினிலே
பேதை – அறிவில்லா ஒருவன்
புகல் – புகுவதென்பது
கற்றறிந்த அறிஞர்கள் கூடியிருக்கும் இடத்தில் ஓர் அறிவில்லா பேதை புகுதலென்பது, அசுத்தத்தை மிதித்துவிட்டு ஒருவன் இன்பத்தைத் தரும் (தூக்கமும் இன்பம்தானே) படுக்கையில் அக்காலோடு புகுந்தால்போல். அப்படுக்கைக்கு அது இழிவாம்போல, கற்றோர் அவைக்கு பேதை புகுதல் அவ்வவைக்கு இழிவாம்.
“கழாஅக்கால்” என்பதை இடக்கரடக்கல் என்று உணரவேண்டும். வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்லப்படக்கூடாதவற்றை, குறிப்பால் சொல்லுவதை, இடக்கரடக்கல் என்று சொல்லுவர். மலம், சிறுநீர் போன்றவற்றை கழித்துவிட்டு உடலைத் தூய்மையாக்குதலை, “கால் கழுவுதல்” என்பது வழக்கம்.
Transliteration:
kazhAakkAl paLLiyuL vaththaRRAl sAnROr
kuzhAaththuk pEdhai pugal.
kazhA akkAl – one who has stepped on impure excretion and not washed himself after that
paLLiyuL – entering the bedroom that gives pleasure
vaththaRRAl – like getting into the bed without washing
sAnROr – erudite
kuzhA aththuk – in the assembly of
pEdhai – a fool
pugal – entering seeking a place.
In the assembly of erudite, if a fool enters, seeking a place, it is like entering a bedroom, that is supposed to give pleasure, without washing after excretion.
There is a special way of saying things which are not meant for public gathering or in an assembly of people. It is referred to as “iDakkaraDakkal”. Excretion is a natural process of every biological system; Washing after that is a self purification process, attached to the our culture; but this would be referred to as, washing the legs.

a bedroom after excretion, impure and without washing”
