இகலென்னும் எவ்வநோய் நீக்கின் தவலில்லாத்
தாவில் விளக்கம் தரும்.
(குறள் 853: இகல் அதிகாரம்)
இகலென்னும் – பகைதரும் வெறுக்கும் குணம் என்னும்
எவ்வ – தீராது தொடரும்
நோய் நீக்கின் – நோயை நீக்கிவிட்டால்
தவலில்லாத் – (அது )நீங்காத
தாவில் – கேடில்லாத
விளக்கம் தரும் – புகழைத் தரும்
எளிய கருத்தைக் கூறும் குறள். எத்தனைத்தான் எடுத்துச் சொன்னாலும் எவரும் கைக்கொள்ளாக் குறள். ஒருவர்மேல் கொண்ட வெறுப்பே நீங்காத நோயாகப் புரையோடி, இருவருக்கும் இடையில் தீராத பகையாகிவிடும். வெறுப்பு, கோபமாகி, முடிவில் மாறாத பகையாகும் என்பதாலேயே, “தீராக் கோபம் போராய் முடியும்” என்பது கொன்றை வேந்தனில் ஔவையின் வாக்கு. அத்தகைய நோயை நீக்கினால், ஒருவருக்கு அது மாறாத புகழைத் தரும்.
“நோய்நாடி நோய்முதல் நாடி அதுதணிக்கும் வாய்நாடி வாய்ப்பச் செயல்” என்ற முதுமொழிக்கேற்ப, பகைதருவது வெறுப்பென்னும் நோயென்று அறிந்து, அதன் தொடக்கக் காரணத்தை அறிந்து, அதைத் தணிவிக்கும் வழியை நாடி, அதைத் தணிப்பதற்கு ஆவன செய்தாலே, எவ்வித எவ்வ நோயும் தீருமல்லவா? அம்முயற்சியால் நீங்காத, கேடு இல்லாத புகழும் வருவது உறுதியே.
Transliteration:
Igalennum evvvanOi nIkkin thavalillAth
thAvil viLakkam tharum
Igalennum – that which fosters enemity
Evvva – the lingering
nOi nIkkin – getting rid of that disease
thavalillAth – forever remaining
thAvil – faultless
viLakkam tharum – glory be brought
Here is a verse that says a simple thought. However much, however many great men have said the same, none really takes it to heart and practice. Hatred towards a person can grow up to be enemity. Hatred turns into anger, that in turn, transforms to enemity. Great poetess AuvayyAr has said the samething in “KonRai vENdan” – “Unrelenting anger ends up being a war”. Only when that is quelled, it brings glory to a person.
Recognizing that there “is” a disease in the first place, understanding its root, finding ways to cure it, and waiting for the time to do it are important and in that order. The enemity is brought by hatred; knowing its root and taking curative measures are important. By making such dedicated effort will bring glory to a person.
