அற்றால் அளவறிந்து உண்க அஃதுடம்பு
பெற்றான் நெடிதுய்க்கும் ஆறு.
(குறள் 943: மருந்து அதிகாரம்)
அற்றால் – முன் உண்ட உணவு செரித்தாலும்
அளவறிந்து – பின்பு எந்த அளவுக்கு உண்டால் செரிக்கும் என்பதையும் அறிந்து
உண்க – அதற்கேற்றவாறு உண்க
அஃதுடம்பு – அது பெறுதற்கரிய பிறவியும், இவ்வுடம்பை
பெற்றான் – அடைந்தவனுக்கு
நெடிது உய்க்கும் – நீண்ட நாள் ஆயுளோடு வாழ
ஆறு – வழியாகும்.
ஒருவன் உணவு உண்டு, அது செரித்தாலும், பின்பு மீண்டும் உண்ணும்போது எந்த அளவுக்கு உண்டால் அது செரிக்கும் என்ற அளவை அறிந்து அதற்கேற்றவாறு உண்ணுதலே ஒருவன் பெறுதற்கரிய இப்பிறவியும். இவ்வுடலையும் அடைந்தவனுக்கு நீண்ட நாள் ஆயுளோடு வாழும் வழியாகும்
Transliteration:
aRRAl aLavaRindu uNga ahduDambu
peRRAn neDiduikkum ARu
aRRAl – If the previously eaten meal has digested
aLavaRindu – knowing how much can eat to digest, next time
uNga – one must eat
ahdu – that ,
uDambu peRRAn – the body
neDidu (u)ikkum – to live long
ARu – a way
Even if we digest the food eaten last time, when we eat next time, we must know how much to eat and consume; that is the only way to sustain and live long, having got this rare gift of a life and the body. Seems like a repetition of the previous verse, except the previous verse said for such a person with strict adherence, there would be no need for medicine; this verse talks about living long without the same, by being controlled about how to eat for proper digestion to sustain longevity.
“Eat in measured quantity always, even if the previous meal is digested;
It is the only way to live long with the rare gift of this body, sustained.
