மாறுபாடு இல்லாத உண்டி மறுத்துண்ணின்
ஊறுபாடு இல்லை உயிர்க்கு.
(குறள் 945: மருந்து அதிகாரம்)
மாறுபாடு இல்லாத உண்டி – உடம்புக்கு ஒத்துக்கொள்ள உணவாகவே இருப்பினும்
மறுத்துண்ணின் – அது மிகும் போது, மறுத்து, அளவாக உண்டால்
ஊறுபாடு இல்லை – எவ்வித துன்பமும் இல்லையாம்
உயிர்க்கு – ஓர் உயிர்க்கு
எவ்விதத்திலும் உடம்புக்கு ஒப்புக்கொள்ளாத உணவுகளைத் தவிர்த்து, உடம்புக்கு ஒத்துக்கொள்ளக்கூடிய உணவாகவே ஒருவர் உண்டாலும், அதுவும் மிகாமல், அளவாகவே ஒருவர் உண்ணுவாராயின், அவர்க்கு நோயால் வரும் எவ்வித துன்பமும் இல்லையாம். இக்குறள் “அளவுக்கு மிஞ்சினால் அமிர்தமும் விடம்”, என்ற கருத்தை ஓட்டியிருப்பதைக் காணலாம். அதாவது அமிர்தமாகவே இருந்தாலும், ஓரளவுக்கே உண்ண வேண்டும், இல்லையெனில் அதுவும் உடலுக்கு ஊறே விளைவிக்கும்.
Transliteration:
mARupADu illAda uNDi maRuththuNNin
URupADu illai uyirkku
mARupADu illAda uNDi – Even if the diet is agreeable to the system
maRuththuNNin – if it becomes excess, if a person learns to refuse the excess
URupADu illai – there is no harm that will ever come to
Uyirkku – his life.
Avoiding all food that do not agree with the body, and even if a specific food is agreeable avoiding the excess of it, will guarantee good health to anyone, without the suffering of diseases. If taken in excess, even nectar is poison is a known adage. This verse underlines that thought.
“Even if agreeable food, refusing the excess
shall guarantee life of no misery and disease”
