அன்புடைமை ஆன்ற குடிப்பிறத்தல் இவ்விரண்டும்
பண்புடைமை என்னும் வழக்கு.
(குறள் 992: பண்புடைமை அதிகாரம்)
அன்புடைமை – எல்லா உயிர்களிடத்தும் அன்புடைத்திருத்தலும்
ஆன்ற குடிப்பிறத்தல் – உயர்ந்த நற்குடி இல் பிறந்திருத்தலும் ஆகிய
இவ்விரண்டும் – இவ்விரண்டு நலன்களும்
பண்புடைமை என்னும் – பண்புடைமை என்று உலகத்தோர் என்று சொல்லும்
வழக்கு – நல் வழி, நெறியாகும்
உலகுயிர்கள் அனைத்தோடும் அன்போடு இருத்தல் என்பது யாவர்க்கும் எளிதே அல்ல. உயர்குடிப் பிறப்பு என்பது ஒருவருடைய தேர்வும் அல்ல. அது அவரவர் ஊழ்வினைப் பயன் என்று வள்ளுவரே கூறியிருக்கிறார்.
பிற உயிர்களின் துன்பங்களுக்கும் வருந்துதலும், எல்லோர்க்கும் முடிந்த அளவுக்கு உதவுதலும் அன்புடைமையாகும். அவ்வாறு உயர்குடிப் பிறப்பும், எவ்வுயிரிடத்து அன்புடைத்திருத்தலுமே உலகோர் பண்புடைமை என்று சொல்லும் நல்வழி நெறியாகும்.
தூது அதிகாரத்திலே ஒரு வேந்தன் தூதுவனிடத்தில் விரும்பும் பண்புடைமையாக இவ்விரண்டையே கூறுவதை ஏற்கனவே கண்டிருக்கிறோம்.
“அன்புடைமை ஆன்ற குடிப்பிறத்தல் வேந்தவாம்
பண்புடைமை தூதுரைப்பான் பண்பு”
Transliteration:
anbuDaimai AnRa kuDippiRaththal ivviraNDum
paNbuDaimai ennum vazhakku
anbuDaimai – being affectionate and loving to all lives
AnRa kuDippiRaththal – and be born of high lineage
ivviraNDum – these two attributes
paNbuDaimai ennum – that the world see as courteous
vazhakku – the, proper conduct/
Being compassionate, affectionate towards other lives is not easy for everyone; and the birth in high lineage is not anybodys’ choice is either; Lineage is to certain extent tied to fate and what one carries from birth to birth as implied by vaLLuvar already.
Being affected and worried about others’ troubles and wanting to help other comes out of compassionate hearts. In this verse vaLLuvar says, both compassion and high lineage are the two essential ingredients that show a person as courteous and is of proper conduct.
“Compassion toward all lives and of noble lineage,
the world sees, as courtesy and conducts’ image”
