நண்பாற்றார் ஆகி நயமில செய்வார்க்கும்
பண்பாற்றார் ஆதல் கடை.
(குறள் 998: பண்புடைமை அதிகாரம்)
நண்பாற்றார் ஆகி – நட்புறவில் இல்லாமல்
நயமில செய்வார்க்கும் – ஈரமற்று தீமையே செய்யினும்
பண்பாற்றார் ஆதல் – அவர்மாட்டும் பண்பில்லாமல் இருத்தல் என்பது
கடை – இழிவாகும்
நட்புறவில் இல்லாமல், பகை கொண்டு, நெஞ்சில் ஈரமற்று தீயவற்றை ஒருவர் செய்தாலும் அவர்மாட்டும் பண்பில்லாமல் இருத்தல் என்பது ஒருவர்க்கு இழிவாகும் என்கிறது இக்குறள். பகைவருக்கும் அருளுடையராக இருக்க வேண்டுமென்பதை, எதிர்மறையாகச் சொல்லி வலியுறுத்துகிறது.
Transliteration:
naNbARRAr Agi nayamil seivArkkum
paNbARRAr Adal kaDai
naNbARRAr Agi – Not being in friendly state
nayamil seivArkkum – even for those without compassion, intending and indulging in evil deeds
paNbARRAr Adal – to be without courtesy is
kaDai – very lowly.
Even for those that are not in a friendly state, intending and indulging in evil, spiteful deeds against others, if a person is without courtesy, that would be lowly, obnoxious says this verse. Even for enemies, one must be kind and compassionate is what is insisted by this verse indirectly.
“Even for those who’re not friendly and do malicious
to be not courteous is considered lowly, obnoxious”
