தம்மில் இருந்து தமதுபாத்து உண்டற்றால்
அம்மா அரிவை முயக்கு.
(குறள் 1117: புணர்ச்சி மகிழ்தல் அதிகாரம்)
தம்மில் இருந்து – தமக்கே சொந்தமான இல்லத்திலே
தமது பாத்து – தம் உழைப்பினால் உண்டாக்கிய ஊணைப் பகுத்து
உண்டற்றால் – உண்பதில் உண்டாகும் இன்பம் போல
அம் மா அரிவை – அம் மாநிறத்தளாகிய அழகிய பெண் (இல்லாள் என்பர் உரையாசிரியர்கள்)
முயக்கு – அவளைத் தழுவல்
அவ்வழகிய பெண்ணுடனான தழுவலானது, தம்முடைய வீட்டிலிருந்து, தம் உழைப்பால் பெற்ற ஊணைப் பிறருடன் பகிர்ந்து உண்ணும் பெருமையும், இன்பமும் உடையது. இரண்டும் முறையான இன்பங்கள் என்று உணர்த்தப்படுகின்றன. எவ்வாறு தம் வீட்டிலே தன்னுழைப்பால் வந்தவை பெருமைக்குரியனவோ, அவற்றைப் பிறரோடு பகிர்ந்து உண்ணல் எவ்வாறு அறம் சார்ந்த இன்பமோ, அதைப் போலவாம் அழகிய பெண்ணொடு முயக்கம் என்று ஒரு அறம் சார்ந்த நிலையில் சொல்லப்பட்டதால், அவ்வழகிய பெண், இல்லாள் என்பதும் உய்த்துணரப்படும்.
Transliteration:
Tammil irundu tamadupAttu uNDaRRAl
ammA arivai muyakku
Tammil irundu – In his own house
Tamadu pAttu – the food he earned with his own effors, sharing with others
uNDaRRAl – the pleasure in eating so
am mA arivai – with that fail-colored female (most commentators say, wife)
muyakku – embrace
Embrace of the beautiful, fair-colored lady is so pleasurable just as it is to be in ones’ own house, and share the food that was earned on own effort. Both are legitimate in nature is what is implied. How? To be in the own house and to be able to earn own food are both prideful and pleasurable in moralistic way. Since it is equated to the pleasure of embrace with a beautiful female, she is implied to be the wife of the man that is mentioned above.
