வாழ்தல் உயிர்க்கன்னள் ஆயிழை சாதல்
அதற்கன்னள் நீங்கும் இடத்து.
(குறள் 1124: காதற்சிறப்புரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
வாழ்தல் – வாழ்வென்னும் வசந்தம்
உயிர்க்கு அன்னள் – போன்றவள் என்னுடைய உயிர்க்கு (என்னோடு முயங்கும்போது)
ஆயிழை – அழகிய நகைகளைப் பூண்ட இப்பெண்ணாள்
சாதல் – இறந்து படுதலுக்கு
அதற்கு அன்னள் – ஒப்பாகிறாள் என்னுயிருக்கு
நீங்கும் இடத்து – அவள் என்னை நீங்கிச் செல்லும் போது.
காதலியோடு முயங்கியிருத்தலே தம்முயிர்க்கு வாழ்வாகவும், அவள் தம்மை முயங்கி நீங்கும் போதெல்லாம் அது இறந்து போவதற்கு இணையாக இருக்கிறது என்றும் காதலன் தன் காதலியின் அணுக்கத்தைச் சிறப்பித்துக் கூறுகிறான் இக்குறளில்!
சென்ற குறளுக்கு முந்தைய குறளில் தலைவனுக்குக் காதலியோடு கூடிய காதல் உயிருக்கும் உடம்புக்குமான தொடர்பென்று கூறியிருப்பதால், தன்னுடைய உடம்பு தம்மை நீங்குதல் உயிர்க்கு வாழ்தல் அற்றுப்போதலையே குறிக்கும்.
இவ்விரு குறள்கள் வழியேயும் மற்றொரு சூக்குமமான நம்பிக்கையையும் கூறுகிறார் வள்ளுவர். அதாவது உயிர் நீங்காது நிலைபெற்று சாவையும் பிறப்பையும் உணர்வதை அழகாகக் கூறுகிறார்.
Transliteration:
vAzhdal uyirkkanaL Ayizai sAdal
adaRkannaL nIngum iDattu
vAzhdal – personifies living
uyirkk(u) anaL – to my life
Ayizai – the maiden decked with choicest jewels
sAdal – it is as bad as dying
adaRk(ku) annaL – for my life
nIngum iDattu – if she leaves me!
To be with his bejeweled maiden is what life is for the man in love. Whenever she leaves him after their being together, it is as bad as dying; he implies, the life he feels in their togetherness and devoid of the same when she leaves.
In the verse before last, VaLLuvar had described the love between the man and his beloved as the connection between the soul and the body. When the body is dead, the life is done with for the soul. In a subtle way, VaLLuvar perhaps underlines the nature of the body that perishes and the soul that transcends births, through these two verse.
If she leaves me, it is as bad as dying for my soul
