வீழ்வாரின் இன்சொல் பெறாஅது உலகத்து
வாழ்வாரின் வன்கணார் இல்.
(குறள் 1198: தனிப்படர் மிகுதி அதிகாரம்)
வீழ்வாரின் – தான் காதலில் வீழ்ந்தவரின்
இன்சொல் பெறாஅது – இனிமையான சொல்லைக் கேளாது
உலகத்து வாழ்வாரின் – இவ்வுலகத்தில் வாழும் பெண்ணை விட
வன்கணார் இல் – கல் நெஞ்சினள் இல்லை
இக்குறளும் பொதுப்படையாகத்தான் எழுதப்பட்டதாகத் தெரிகிறது. பொதுவாக எல்லா உரையாசிரியர்களும், ஏதோ காதலாழ்பட்ட பெண்டிர்தம் தம் அன்பர்களின் இன் சொல்லைக் கேட்பதே தம்முடைய பிறவிப் பயனாகக் கருதவேண்டும் என்பதுபோல் உரை யாத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
குறள் கூறும் கருத்து இதுதான். தாம் யாரது காதலுக்கு வீழ்ந்தாரோ, அவர்/அவள் கூறும் இன் சொல்லைக் கேளாது இவ்வுலகில் வாழ்கின்ற பெண்/ஆணைவிட மிகுந்த கல் நெஞ்சினர் யாருமில்லை,
Transliteration:
vIzhvArin insol peRAadu ulagattu
vAzhvArin vankaNAr il
vIzhvArin – from the beloved
insol peRAadu – not hearing the pleasant words
ulagattu vAzhvArin – that who lives in this world
vankaNAr il – none so hard-hearted
Though the verse seems to be written as applicable to both man and his beloved, most commentators have interpreted in a way as if it is the fortune for a maiden to live in this world only to hear the pleasant words from her beloved. But the verse says only this: There is none so stone-hearted that live in this world who cannot hear the sweet and pleasant words of his/her beloved.
“None as stone-hearted as that live in this world
that can not listen to the sweet words of beloved”
