128: (Reading of signs – குறிப்பறிவுறுத்தல்)

கரப்பினுங் கையிகந் தொல்லாநின் உண்கண்
உரைக்கல் உறுவதொன் றுண்டு.
(குறள் 1271: குறிப்பறிவுறுத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
கரப்பினுங் – மறைத்தாலும்
கை இகந்து – உன்கையையும் மீறி
ஒல்லா – உடன்படாது
நின் உண்கண் – உன்னுடைய என்னையே உண்ணுகின்ற அல்லது மையுண்ட கண்கள்
உரைக்கல் உறுவது – சொல்லும் செய்தியொன்று
ஒன்றுண்டு – ஒன்றிருக்கிறது.
தலைவியிடம் தலைமகன் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறான். நீ எவ்வளவுதான் மறைத்தாலும், உன்னுடைய மறைத்தலையும் கை மீறி, உடன்படாது, உன்னுடைய மையுண்ட கண்கள் சொல்கின்ற செய்தியொன்று உண்டு. அதனால், உன் உள்ளதுள்ளதை நீ ஒளிக்காதே என்று பொருள்பட தலைவியிடம் கூறுகிறான் தலைவன்.
சென்ற அதிகாரத்தின் இறுதிக்குறளில் பிரிவின் உளைச்சலில், ஊடலின் உச்சத்தில் இருந்த காதற்தலைவி, ஒருவழியாக ஆறுதல் அடைந்து தலைவனைத் தழுவிக் கூடியபின், உணர்ச்சிப்பெருக்கில் பேசாமல் அவனைப் பார்க்கும்போது, அவன் அவளின் முகத்தைத் தன்கரங்களில் ஏந்தி, அவளைப் பார்க்கிறான். அவள் கண்கள் சொல்லாமல் பல சேதிகளைச் சொல்வதையும் அறிகிறான். அவை என்னவாக இருக்கமுடியும்? நீ பிரிந்து செல்வதை என் உள்ளம் பொறாது, அதனால் மீண்டுமொரு முறை பிரிந்து செல்லாதே என்பதாகத்தானே இருக்கமுடியும்?
Transliteration:
Karappinung kaiyigan dollAnin uNkaN
Uraikkal uRuvathon RuNDu.
Karappinung – Even if you hide it from me
Kai yigandu – beyond your blocking hands
Olla – not be controlled by your sense of shame or indifference
nin uNkaN – your devouring eyes (or eyes tinted with pigment for decoration)
Uraikkal uRuvath(u) – to convey the innermost thought of yours
onRuNDu – there is one thing! (or something)
However much your try to hide, beyond your blocking hands and control, your decorated eyes reveal a thing to me, says the man to her maiden that has pined his leaving her for long; he implies that she should not hide, what is in her mind to him and reveal herself.
In the last verse of the previous chapter, the maiden, deeply disturbed by her man leaving her, expressed in a frustrated tone. But when he returned, without words, they made up for all that and now she is in his embrace; he slowly lifts her head and looks at her eyes, which convey much more than her words; what would be that? What else other than that she desires him not to leave her again in this sort of pain and he understands that!
“Beyond your attempts to hide what’s in your mind,
Your eyes reveal, crossing your controlling hand!”
