துன்பத்திற்கு யாரே துணையாவார் தாமுடைய
நெஞ்சந் துணையல் வழி.
(குறள் 1299: நெஞ்சொடுபுலத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
துன்பத்திற்கு – பிரிவாற்றாமையாம் துன்பத்திற்கு
யாரே துணையாவார் – யார்தான் துணையாக, ஆறுதலாக இருப்பார்?
தாமுடைய நெஞ்சந் – தாம் கொண்ட நெஞ்சமே
துணை அல் வழி – துணையில்லா விட்டால்?
தலைவி இக்குறளில் தன்னுடைய நெஞ்சம் தமக்குத் துணை நிற்காமல், தலைவன்பால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு சென்றதைக் கண்டு, அதனிடமே முறையிடுகிறாள். பிரிவாற்றாமையாகிய துன்பத்தில் நான் உழலுகையில் துணையாக இருக்கவேண்டிய நீயே துணையாக இல்லாவிட்டால், வேறு யார்தான் அவ்வாறிருப்பார்? நீயே கூறு என்கிறாள்.
Transliteration:
tunabattiRku yArE tuNaiyAvAr thAmuDaiya
nenjan tuNaiyal vazhi
tunabattiRku – during distress (due to her lover going away)
yArE tuNaiyAvAr – who shall be an appropriate companion
thAmuDaiya nenjan – heart of self
tuNai al vazhi – if not the right support and companion?
In this verse, the maiden complains that her heart, drawn to her lover, deserted her! She says, “When I am in distress because of his leaving, if you, who is supposed to be my companion and support are not so, who else shall be so? Please tell me!
“O! my heart, In distress if you’re not my support
Who shall I expect and count as my support?
