132: (Subtle Sulking – புலவி நுணுக்கம்)
[In this chapter vaLLuvar shows different instances where the subtlety and fineness are part of love-quarrel. The crass quarrel, however much feigned may not result in pleasure after the quarrel is over; but the subtle feelings, thoughts that are alluded throughout this chapter, as part of the maiden or her man give a different perspective to such quarrels.]
பெண்ணியலார் எல்லாரும் கண்ணின் பொதுஉண்பர்
நண்ணேன் பரத்தநின் மார்பு.
(குறள் 1311: புலவி நுணுக்கம் அதிகாரம்)
பெண்ணியலார் எல்லாரும் – பெண்களின் இயற்கை உடைய யாவரும் (பரத்தையரும் அவ்வியற்கை உடையோர்)
கண்ணின் பொது உண்பர் – தம்முடைய கண்களால் யாவர்க்கும் பொது என்பதுபோல் உண்பதால்
நண்ணேன் பரத்தநின் மார்பு – நான் விரும்பேன் உன்பரந்த மார்பினைத் தழுவுதலை.
தலைவி தன் தலைவனின் பரந்து அகன்ற மார்பை எண்ணிப் பெருமிதம் கொள்கிறாள். அதே சமயம் அம்மார்பு எல்லாப் பெண்களின் இயற்கை உடையவர் கண்களுக்கும் விருந்தாக அமைந்து, அவர்கள் கண்களால் ஏதோ பொதுவானதை உண்பதுபோல் கொள்வதால், தான் அதைத் தழுவுவதலை விரும்பவில்லையாம் அவள். பெண்ணியலார் என்றதால், அவர்கள் உருவத்தால் பெண்ணியற்கை உடையவர் என்றும், மற்றபடி பரத்தையர் குணநலன்களை உடையவர் என்பதும் குறிப்பால் உணர்த்தப்படுகிறது. அதானால், தலைவி பிறர் எச்சிலை உண்ணவிரும்பாததையும் கூறுகிறாள்.
Transliteration:
peNNiyalAr ellArum kaNNin poduuNbar
naNNEn paraththanin mArbu
peNNiyalAr ellArum – all women that are physically so, but in mind are like prostitutes
kaNNin podu uNbar – with their eyes devour as if he is common to all
naNNEn paraththanin mArbu – So, I will not desire to embrace you broad chest
In this verse, the maiden is proud about her lovers’ broad chest; yet she declares that she would not desire to embrace him as his chest is devoured by the eyes of all women that are in demeanor women but are more of prostitutes’ mindset. The maiden is certain and does not desire what other women have tasted and left over.
“Since all womenkind devour with their eyes my beloved
For me, embrace of his broad chest is not at all desired”
