கோட்டுப் பூச் சூடினும் காயும் ஒருத்தியைக்
காட்டிய சூடினீர் என்று.
(குறள் 1313: புலவி நுணுக்கம் அதிகாரம்)
கோட்டுப் பூச் சூடினும் – மரக்கிளையில் பூத்திருக்கும் பூவையெடுத்து மாலையாக்கி அணிந்தாலும்
காயும் – என் காதலி என்னைக் காய்வாள்
ஒருத்தியைக் – வேறொரு பெண்ணுக்குக்
காட்டிய சூடினீர் என்று – காட்டவே நீங்கள் அதைச் சூடினீர் என்று.
இக்குறள் தலைவன் கூற்றாக அமைவது என்பது பிற உரையாசிரியர்கள் கருத்து. தலைவன் மரத்தின் கிளைகளிலிருந்து பூவை எடுத்து மாலையாக்கிச் சூடிக்கொண்டால், அதை தனக்காகச் செய்துகொண்ட ஒப்பனையாகக் கொள்ளாது, வேறொருத்திக்காகச் செய்துகொண்டது என்று குற்றம் சொல்லி அவனைக் கோபிப்பாளாம், அவனோடு ஊடுவாளாம் காதற்தலைவி.
ஆண்கள் பூமாலை அணிவது வழக்கமேயெனினும், தாமே பூ எடுத்து மாலையாகக் கட்டி அணிந்து கொள்ளுவர் என்பது மிகையான கற்பனையே. அதையே அவன் தலைவிக்குச் சூட்டினாலும், அவள் இவ்வாறு செய்வதெல்லாம் இவனை விழையும் பிறபெண்டிரைக் கவர்வதற்காக, அவர்களுக்கு காட்டவே செய்ததாக காதற்தலைவி கருத இடமுண்டு.
Transliteration:
kOTTup pUch chUDinum kAyum oruttiyaik
kATTiya chUDinIr enRu
kOTTup pUch chUDinum – Even if I wear a garland of flowers from the branches of a tree
kAyum – my maiden would get angry
oruttiyaik – for another woman
kATTiya chUDinIr enRu – as if to show (to another woman), I am wearing that.!
Most of the commentary for this verse, is from the perspective of a man. When the lover of the maiden, plucks flowers from the branches of a tree, makes a garland and adorns himself, the maiden would not think of that as done to please her; she would be angry as if he did it to please other woman.
Though, it is normal for men to wear garlands, it is highly improbable that they would pluck flowers on their own, make garland to adorn themselves and borders on excessive imagination; If he adorns the same to his lover, it is possible for her to think that he is doing that to show off before other women.
“Even if I adorn myself from branch flowers, my woman
would be angry as if I am trying to impress other women”
