ஊடலின் தோன்றும் சிறுதுனி நல்லளி
வாடினும் பாடு பெறும்.
(குறள் 1322: ஊடலுவகை அதிகாரம்)
ஊடலின் தோன்றும் – ஊடலால் தோன்றுகின்ற
சிறு துனி – சிறிதளவு கோபத்தால், வெறுப்பினால்
நல் அளி வாடினும் – காதலருக்கிடைய உள்ள நல்ல அன்பானது தொய்ந்து போயினும்
பாடு பெறும் – அதுவும் வெற்றி பெறக்கூடியது.
சென்ற குறளின் தொடர்ச்சியாகவே இக்குறளைக் கொள்ளலாம். தோழி தலைவியை நோக்கி கேட்கிறாள், “ஊடலுக்குப் பின் இன்பம் வருமேயாயினும், ஊடலினால் சிறிது கோபமும், வெறுப்பும் தோன்றுமே” என்று! அதற்கு தலைவி, “உண்மையே! ஊடலினால் சிறிதளவு கோபமும், வெறுப்பும் தோன்றி, அதனால் காதலருக்கிடையே உள்ள நல்ல அன்பிற்கு தொய்வு உண்டாகும்; என்றாலும், அதுவும் வெற்றி பெறக்கூடியதே” என்கிறாள். மணக்குடவர் உரை மிகவும் அழகாக இதைச் சொல்லுகிறது. ஊடலின்கண் எதிர்த்து நில்லாத காதற்தலைவனே வென்றார்; அவ்வெற்றியை கூடலின் கண்ணே காணப்பெறும், என்கிறார் மணக்குடவர்
Transliteration:
UDalin thOnRum siRuduni nallaLi
vADinum pADu peRum
UDalin thOnRum – that which is brought forth by the love quarrel
siRu duni – a little disgust, anger
nal aLi vADinum – though the affection takes a back seat between the lovers
pADu peRum – even that yields more affection and the success of union
This verse can be considered the continuation of the previous verse. The friend of maiden asks, “ though pleasure of union is there after the love-quarrel, won’t it bring a little disgust and anger” for her man-love. The maiden answers thus: “True! The love-quarrel would yield anger and disgust, though it would also be a success for my man eventually”. ManakkuDavars’ commentary has put this nicely; The man who did not figh against the love-quarrely, had the success and the fruit of that was seen in the subsequent union between the man and his maiden”
“Though the affection takes a small hit, because of the love quarrel,
It would only yield success to him eventually, as the love will swell”
