நிறைமொழி மாந்தர் பெருமை நிலத்து
மறைமொழி காட்டி விடும்.
(குறள் 28: நீத்தார் பெருமை அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
niRaimozhi mAndhar perumai nilaththu
maRaimozhi kATTiviDum
niraimozhi mAndhar – peope that have only words of wisdom and usefulness
perumai – their greatness
nilaththu – in this world
maRaimozhi – the holy scriptures
kATTiviDum – will reveal (the greatness of such people)
This verse states the fact that the words of wisdom of wise and the people of righteous path will become the scriptures of highvalue for the entire world. Their greatness is evidenced by the very wise words spoken by them.
This has a direct reference to tholkappiyAr’s (the 2nd grammarian of Tamizh language) work “TholkAppiyam” which stands the primary grammar work on Thamiz. His exact words are: ‘niRaimozhi mAndhar ANaiyirk kiLandha maRaimozhithAnE mandhiram enba’ (நிறைமொழி மாந்தர் ஆணையிற் கிளந்த மறைமொழிதானே மந்திரம் என்ப – verse:178).
“maRai” in tamizh means “hidden”. The realization of Godhead is not for everyone. It is only for the people that seek and attanin the wisdom. Since the “Holy scriptures” talk about ways of reaching this Godhead or godliness, they are kept at par with hidden treasures which are only for seekers.
Here is an endorsement by vaLLuvar about his inherent belief on the concept of “maRai”, “maRai mozhi” (vEdhA’s and vEdha mantras). Or else he could have simply said, the works of great people would speak about the greatness of the people of wisdom.
The primary idea is what is hidden treasure is always revealed to the ardent seekers that seek with sincerity and seriousness, who in this case are the people that have attained the wisdom of the supreme knowledge by staying the austere course.
தமிழிலே:
நிறைமொழி மாந்தர் – பயனோடு கூடிய அறிவார்ந்த பேச்சினை உடையவர்கள்
பெருமை – அவர்களது சிறப்பும் பெருமையும்
நிலத்து – இப்பூமியின் கண்
மறைமொழி – மறை நூல்களான வேதங்கள்
காட்டி விடும் – நமக்கு தெரிவித்து விடும் (அவர்களது வாக்கமுதங்களே வேதமந்திரங்கள் என்பதை தொல்காப்பியரும் கூறியுள்ளார்.)
இக்குறள், அறிவார்ந்த பயனுள்ள உயர்ந்தகருத்துக்களை எப்போதும் பேசுகிறவர்களுடைய பெருமையை, அவர்கள் வாய்மொழியே மறைப்பொருளாய் நின்று உணர்த்திவிடும். அவர்கள் வாய்மொழிகளே அருளுறையும் வேத மந்திரங்களாகிவிடும்.
தமிழின் தொன்மையான இலக்கணம் மற்றும் வாழ்வியல் நூலாம் தொல்காப்பியத்தை, இக்குறளுக்காக மேற்கோளாக வள்ளுவர் எடுத்துக்கொண்டதற்கான சான்று: “நிறைமொழி மாந்தர் ஆணையிற் கிளந்த மறைமொழிதானே மந்திரம் என்ப”– தொல்காப்பியச் செய்யுள்: 178.
“மறை” என்பதன் பொருள், ஒளிந்திருப்பது, வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்லப்படாமல், உள்ளுரையாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டது என்பதே. ஒருபொருளின் மதிப்பு அதைத் தேடிச் சென்று அடைபவருக்கே தெரியுமாதலால், இவற்றை மறைபொருளாக்கி, அதை அடைவதற்கான ஒழுக்க நெறிகளைக் கற்று, தேடுபவர்களுக்கே அவை கிடைக்கும் என்னும் பொருளிலேயே அவை மறைமொழி எனப்பட்டன.
வள்ளுவர் “மறை”, “மறை மொழி”, மந்திரங்கள் என்பவற்றில் நம்பிக்கைக் கொண்டவர் என்பதும் இக்குறள் ஓரளவுக்கு நிறைவாகவே சொல்லுகிறது. தொல்காப்பியத்தை அறியாமலா தமிழறிந்திருப்பார் வள்ளுவர்? முன் வைத்த அதே வாதம் தான்! தான் நம்பாத ஒன்றைப்பற்றி தன்னுடைய நூலில் வள்ளுவர் பெருமையுடன் எழுதியிருப்பார் என்று நம்பமுடியவில்லை! பாரதி சொன்னது போல, தமிழ்நாடு என்றுமே “வேதம் நிறைந்த தமிழ்நாடா”கத்தான் இருந்திருக்கிறது. இல்லையெனின் வள்ளுவர், “மறைமொழி” என்பதற்கு பதிலாக “சிறந்த நூல்கள்” என்ற பொருளில் சொல்லியிருப்பாரே!
மேலும், கடவுள் என்பவனும் “மறையோன்” எனப்படுதலால், அவனோ, அதுவோ, ஒளிந்திருப்பதாகப் பொருளில்லை. தேடுபவர்க்கே கிடைக்கும் அரும்பொருள் என்பதே பொருள்.
