அவாஇல்லார்க் கில்லாகுந் துன்பம் அஃதுண்டேல்
தவாஅது மேன்மேல் வரும்.
(குறள் 368: அவாவறுத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
avAillArk killAgund thunbam ahdhundEl
thavAadhu mEnmEl varum
avAillArk(ku) – Those who have servered the desires (by attachments)
illAgund – will have none
thunbam – miseries and hardships (out of desire)
ahdhundEl – If desires linger
thavAadhu – diminish (comes from the root word “thavu”)
mEnmEl varum – more and more, it wil be.
This verse once again emphasizes the word “thavA” meaning “diminish”. What does diminish? The verse answers this in a roundabout way. Those who have severed the desires (from attachments), will not have engulfing miseries. Those who have the binding of desires, unable to severe, will diminish due to the miseries and have more and more miseries befall on them. Though the thought has been conveyed already, we must construe it to be emphasized again, implying the lasting nature of miseries due to desires.

தமிழிலே:
அவாஇல்லார்க்(கு) – ஆசைகள் (பற்று) இல்லாமல் அறுத்தவர்க்கு
இல்லாகுந் – இல்லையென்று ஆகும்
துன்பம் – ஆசைகளால் வரும் துன்பங்களும்
அஃதுண்டேல்
– ஆசைகளை பற்றறுக்க இயலாமல் இருப்பவர்களுக்கு
தவாஅது – தவு என்னும் வேர்ச் சொல்லில் இருந்து வருவது தவா நிலை, குன்றுவது
மேன்மேல் வரும் – மேலும் மேலும் ஒழியாமல் குன்றுவதேயாகும்
இக்குறள் மீண்டும் “தவா” என்ற சொல்லைக் “குன்றுவது” என்னும் பொருளை முன்வைத்துச் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. ஆசைகளை அறுத்தவர்களுக்கு (அதாவது அதற்குக் காரணமாகியப் பற்றுகளை அறுத்தவர்க்கு), அவ்வாசைகளினால் விளையும் துன்பங்களும் இல்லையென்று ஆகிவிடும். ஆசைகளாகிய கட்டுக்களை அறுத்துக்கொள்ளாதவர்க்கு, இவ்வுலகத்தின் பிணைப்பும் விடாது, துன்பங்களும் (குறைவு, குன்றுவது) மேலும் மேலும் வளரும். முன்னரே சொல்லப்பட்டக் கருத்துதான். மீண்டும் உறுதிப்பட அழுத்திச் சொல்வதாகக் கொள்ளவேண்டும்
