இடிக்குந் துணையாரை யாள்வாரை யாரே
கெடுக்குந் தகைமை யவர்.
(குறள் 447: பெரியோரைத் துணைக்கோடல் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
iDikkum thuNaiyArai yALvArai yArE
keDukkum thagaimai yavar
iDikkum – rebuking admonishing
thuNaiyArai – keeping wise and elderly as the best companions
yALvArai– that rule
yArE– who will
keDukkum – to ruin
thagaimaiyavar – have the capacity (to ruin)
This verse asks as a question, the same thought explored in the previous verse. Who can be the enemies of the rulers that rule with wise and elderly that can admonish for the right things and at the right time and lead the ruler in the right path, in their fold? The answer is obviously, “there is none”. A

தமிழிலே:
இடிக்குந் – இடித்து உரைத்து உணர்த்துகின்ற
துணையாரை – துணையாம் ஆன்றோரை தமக்கு சிறந்த துணையாகக் கொண்டு
ஆள்வாரை – ஆட்சி புரிவோரை
யாரே – யார்தான்
கெடுக்குந் – கெடுக்கக் கூடிய
தகைமையவர் – சிறப்பினை உடைய பகைவரெவர் யார்?
சென்ற குறள் சொன்னதைச் சற்று மாற்றி கேள்வியாகக் கேட்கிறது இக்குறள். ஆள்வோரை இடித்து உரைக்க வேண்டுவனவற்றிர்க்கு, உரிய நேரத்தில் அஞ்சாமல் இடித்துறைத்து நல்லாற்றுப் படுத்தும் ஆன்றோரை, பெரியோரைத் துணைகொண்டு ஆள்வோரை, கெடுக்கக்கூடிய சிறப்பு மிக்க பகைவர்கள் யார்? ஒருவரும் இல்லை என்கிற பதிலை உறுதியாக அடக்கிய கேள்வி இது.
