தக்கா ரினத்தனாய்த் தானொழுக வல்லானைச்
செற்றார் செயக்கிடந்த தில்.
(குறள் 446: பெரியோரைத் துணைக்கோடல் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
thakkA rinaththanAi thAnozhuga vallAnaich
cheRRAr seyakkiDandha dhil
thakkAr – knowing that this great men will guide us
inaththanAi – considering them as close to self, as their own clan
thAn ozhuga – keeping them as attached to them
vallAnaich – who has that capacity
cheRRAr – enemies
seyak kiDandhadh(u) – doing harm is
il – not possible
Choosing the great people’s company to be in, and keeping them close to self should be an important trait for the rulers; enemies do not harm such rulers.
One of the NAlaDiyAr verse says, “Small grass that grows in the wooden block, does not get moved by the plough. Similarly even if they are not strong, a person leaning on the shoulders of strong people, will not be touched by enemies
AthichchUDi has a one liner, “ sAnDROr inaththiru” –which reflect the same thought in just two words. The enemies cited here are both external and internal ones, physical and perceived by the indwelling soul.

தமிழிலே:
தக்கார் – இவர் தம்மை நல்வழி நடத்த தக்கவர் என்று அறிந்த பெரியோரை
இனத்தனாய்த் – தம்முடைய இணக்கமாய் இருக்கத்தக்க இனத்தராகக் கொண்டு
தான் ஒழுக – தாம் அவரோடு இணைந்து இருக்கச் செய்யும்
வல்லானைச் – ஆற்றல் உடையவனை
செற்றார் – பகைவர்
செயக் கிடந்தது – ஊறு செய்வது என்பது
இல் – இல்லை.
தம்மை நல்வழி நடத்த தக்கவர் என்று அறிந்த பெரியோரை தமக்கு இணக்கமாய் இருக்கத்தக்க இனத்தராகக் கொண்டு, தம்மை அவரோடு இணைந்து இருக்கச் செய்யும் ஆற்றல் உடைய ஆள்வோரை, பகைவர்கள் ஊறு செய்வது என்பது இல்லை.
நாலடியார் பாடல் ஒன்று, “புன்செய் நிலத்திலும், நன்செய் நிலத்திலும் மரக்கட்டையைச் சார்ந்து முளைத்திருக்கும் புல்லானது, உழவர்களின் கலப்பைக்குச் சிறிதும் அசையாது. அதுபோல, வலிமை அற்றவராயினும் வலிமை மிக்காரைச் சார்ந்திருப்பாராயின், பகைவர் சினம் அவர்மேல் செல்லாது”, என்கிறது. அப்பாடல் கீழே:
கொல்லை இரும்புனத்துக் குற்றி யடைந்தபுல்
ஒல்காவே யாகும் உழவர் உழுபடைக்கு;
மெல்லியரே யாயினும் நற்சார்வு சார்ந்தார் மேல்
செல்லாவாம் செற்றார்சினம்.
ஆத்திச்சூடி சொல்வதும், “சான்றோர் இனத்திரு” என்பதுதான். பகையென்பது புறப்பகை மட்டுமல்லாது, உடனிருந்து அழிக்கும் அகப்பகையும் என்பது பெறப்படும்.

பெரியோர் துணைகொண்ட பெற்றிமை பெற்றார்க்
கரிதாம் பகைதரும் துன்பு.
