காக்கை கரவா கரைந்துண்ணும் ஆக்கமும்
அன்னநீ ரார்க்கே உள.
(குறள் 527: சுற்றந்தழால் அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
kAkkai karavA karainduNNum Akkamum
annanI rArkkE uLa
kAkkai – a crow
karavA – will not hide (the food it picks up)
karainduNNum – will call out its kindred
Akkamum – the wealth such as money, devoid of enemies, good relations, glory, etc.
anna nIrArkkE – Only to people of such trait
uLa – will be there.
A crow is not a desirable birl; it is black and not colorful or attractive like other birds. Does go as uninvited guest where the food is found and without anyone’s consent picks up food. Mostly people only drive off the bird when they sight the bird. But such generally despised bird has a unique character. It always shares the food it gets with its kindre, calling them out when it finds and picks up the food. Such a sharing tendency is not found in most humans and in other life forms. Whether it is true for a crow for being such a benevolent bird to get all prosperity or not, this verse says, for people of such benevolence prosperity of all kinds will be there.

காக்கை – காக்கையானது
கரவா – ஒளிக்காது (தனக்குக் கிடைத்த உணவை)
கரைந்துண்ணும் – தன் இனத்தைக் கூவி அழைத்து பகிர்ந்து உண்ணும்
ஆக்கமும் – எல்லா செல்வங்களும் (வளம், பகையின்மை, நல்லுறவு, பெருமை ஆகிய)
அன்ன நீரார்க்கே – அத்தகைய தன்மை உடையவர்களே
உள – இருக்கும்
காக்கைப் பறவைகளில் எல்லோரும் விரும்பக்கூடிய ஒன்றல்ல. நிறத்தால் கருப்பு. அழையா விருந்தாளியாக, உணவு கண்ட இடத்தில் தோன்றி கொத்திச் செல்வதுதான் காக்கை. பெரும்பாலும் காக்கையை விரட்டுபவர்களே உண்டு. ஆனால் அக்காக்கைக்கு மற்ற உயிரினங்களில் இல்லாத ஒரு குணம் உண்டு. தனக்குக் கிடைத்த உணவை தன் கூட்டத்தையே கரைந்து அழைத்து ஒளிக்காமல், பகிர்ந்து உண்ணும் இயல்பது. அத்தகைய தன்மை உடையவர்களுக்கே, வளம், பகையின்மை, நல்லுறவு, பெருமை ஆகிய எல்லாச் செல்வங்களும், இருக்கும். காக்கைக்கு அதனுடைய குணத்தினால் ஆக்கம் உண்டா இல்லையா என்று தெரியது. ஆனால் காக்கை குணம் கொண்டவர்க்கு உண்டு என்பது இக்குறள் சொல்லுங் கருத்து.

கூட்டுசெல்வம் கொட்டி வரும்
