இனத்தாற்றி எண்ணாத வேந்தன் சினத்தாற்றிச்
சீறிற் சிறுகும் திரு.
(குறள் 568: வெருவந்த செய்யாமை அதிகாரம்)
இனத்தாற்றி – தன்னாட்சிக்கு உறுதுணையான அமைச்சரவை என்னும் இனத்தோடு
எண்ணாத – ஆராய்ந்தொழுகாத
வேந்தன் – ஆள்வோன்
சினத்தாற்றிச் – சினமென்னும் சிறுமைக்காட்பட்டு
சீறிற் – கோபப்படுவானேயாயின்
சிறுகும் – குறைந்து மறையும்
திரு – அவனுடைய வளங்கள் எல்லாம்
அரசனின் வளங்கள் அருகுதலுக்கான காரணங்களை மற்றொரு விதமாகச் சொல்லும் குறள். தன்னுடைய ஆட்சிக்குத் துணையாக வரும் தம்மினமென சொல்லத்தக்க அமைச்சரவையோடு தன் குடியினர் செய்யும் குற்றத்தை ஆராயாது, சினத்துக்கு ஆட்பட்டு, அவர் அஞ்சத்தக்க வகையில் சீறுவானேயானால், அதனாலேயே அவனுடைய வளங்கள் எல்லாம் சிறுகச் சிறுகக் குறைந்து மறையும்.
அஞ்சத்தக்கவாறு ஆளுவோர் இருப்பதற்கான பல காரணங்களுள் தம் அமைச்சரவையை கலந்து ஆலோசிக்காமல் இருப்பதும் காரணம். தம்மைத்தானே தன்னுடைய அஞ்சத்தகுந்த தோற்றத்தால் தனிமைப்படுத்திக்கொள்பவர் யாரும் தம் வளங்களைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும் திறனற்றவர் ஆகிவிடுவார் என்பதைச் மீண்டும் சொல்லும் குறள்.
Transliteration:
inaththARRi eNNAda vEndan sinaththARRich
sIriR siRugum thiru
inaththARRi – With the team of ministers that aid in governance
eNNAda – not consulting them
vEndan – a ruler
sinaththARRich – if he succumbs to the destructing anger
sIriR – and be harsh and fearful to others
siRugum – diminish will him
thiru – wealth
Here is another verse that says, among many reasons for a rulers’ prosperity to diminish, his not consulting his own clan of ministers, when inquiring and punishing his subjects that commit crimes. Without proper inquiry, if the ruler succumbs to anger all the time and renders undue punishments, that itself will become a reason for him to lose his prosperity slowly, but surely.
For a ruler to be fearful to his subjects, one of the main reasons is that he does not take the advice and cognizance of his learned ministers who share the responsibility of giving good governance; and such ruler will isolate himself and lose the ability to protect his true wealth – his nation, subjects and the prosperity built by them as they lose faith in the ruler. Another verse that is definitely a chapter filler.
“Ruler not consulting his governing council of minister to render justice
To his subjects, succumbs to anger, lose prosperity of his enterprise”
