இடிபுரிந்து எள்ளுஞ்சொல் கேட்பர் மடிபுரிந்து
மாண்ட உஞற்றி லவர்.

இடிபுரிந்து – பிறரால் இடித்துரைக்கப்பட்டு
எள்ளுஞ்சொல் – இழி சொற்களும்
கேட்பர் – கேட்பர்
மடிபுரிந்து – சோம்பலில் இருந்து
மாண்ட – முற்றிலும் தீர்ந்த (எல்லா வழிகளிலும் முயன்று பார்க்கும்)
உஞற்று இலவர் – முயற்சியும் இல்லாதவர்
மீண்டுமொரு குறள், சோம்பி இருப்பவர்களுக்கு வந்து சேரும் இழிமைபற்றி. முற்றிலும் தீர்ந்த எவ்வொரு முயற்சியும் இல்லாதவர்கள், பிறரால் இடித்துரைக்கப்பட்டு, மேலும் அவருடைய சோம்பலினால் பிறர் கூறும் இழிச் சொற்களைக் கேட்பர் என்பது இக்குறளின் பொருள்.
Transliteration:
iDipurindu eLLunjsol kETpar maDipurindu
mANDa unjaRRi lavar
iDipurindu – strongly advised by others
eLLunjsol – and also rebukes
kETpar – will be heard by
maDipurindu– being slothful
mANDa – and exhaustively
unjaRR(u) ilavar – people that did not try any ways to mend.
Another verse to highlight the ignominy, disgrace that slothfulness brings. Not exhausting all ways to mend, a slothful person would be strongly advised by others and will also hear words of rebuke, admonition, and disgrace from others.
Who, not mending self to be rid of being slothful,
Will strongly be advised and hear words, disgraceful
