தெய்வத்தான் ஆகா தெனினும் முயற்சிதன்
மெய்வருத்தக் கூலி தரும்.
(குறள் 619: ஆள்வினையுடைமை அதிகாரம்)
தெய்வத்தான் – எல்லாவல்லமையும் உள்ள இறைப்பொருளுக்கே
ஆகாதெனினும் – செய்ய இயலாத ஒன்றுக்கும் (இது முயற்சியின் சிறப்புக்காகச் சொல்வது)
முயற்சி – சீரிய தொய்விலாத முயற்சி
தன்மெய் வருத்தக் – ஒருவர் தன்னுடலை வருத்தி வினையாற்றினால்
கூலி தரும் – அதற்கு உண்டான பயனைத் தரும்
இறைப்பொருள் என்பது எல்லா வல்லமையும் கொண்டது. அதற்கு இயலாதவொன்று ஏதுமில்லை என்றாலும், அதற்கே முடியாதவொன்றும் ஒருவர் தொய்வில்லாது தன்னுடலை வருத்திச் செய்யும், முயற்சியினால், அதற்கு உண்டான பயனைத்தரும். இக்குறளினால் முயற்சியின் உயர்வை இறைப்பொருளின் எல்லைக்கு ஏற்றிச் சொல்லுகிறார் வள்ளுவர்.
இதையே “தெய்வத்துக் குஆகா தெனினும்” என்று கொண்டால், புராணங்களில் சொல்லப்படுகிற கதைகளுக்கும் விளக்கம் கிடைத்துவிடுகிறது. அசுரர்கள் இடைவிடாது முயன்று கோர தவமியற்றி, தம்முடலை வருத்தி செய்யும் தவங்களுக்கு, இறைப்பொருள், அதற்கு பிடிக்காததென்றாலும், தவமியற்றிய அசுரனின் முயற்சியின் உயர்வுக்காக வரங்களை அள்ளிக்கொடுத்து, தமக்கும், மற்ற உயிர்களுக்கும், துன்பங்களை வருவித்துக்கொண்டதையும் பார்க்கிறோம்.
குறளின் குரல் இதுதான்: எல்லாம் அவன் செயலின்றிருப்பதிலும், அவன் அருள் செய்வததும், முயற்சி உடையவர்களுக்கே என்பதை உணர்வதே நல்லது. கீதையின் கருமயோகம் போதிப்பதும் இதைத்தான்.
Transliteration:
deivaththAn AgA deninum muyaRchithan
meivaruththak kUli tharum
deivaththAn – even for Godhead
AgAdeninum – that which is impossible to make a person attain the goal
muyaRchi – effort (untiring, relentless and persistent)
thanmei varuththak – physically laboring to accomplish
kUli tharum – will bring in approrpriate rewards.
“Godhead is all powerful and there is nothing which is impossible for it. Even what is impossible for Godhead to grant, it is possible to accomplish with a person’s persistent, untiring effort. By saying, “that which is impossible by Godhead”, it is only implied that “effort” is all-powerful.
We have read in most mythological stories that a demon would indulge in austere penance to get boons, and to only cause havoc and be a menace to the world; and even to Godhead sometimes. Why would Godhead grant boons to a demon, knowing the repurcussions, even if it does not like it? It is because to show the greatnesss of persistent effort.
It is better to be doing things instead of being a laggard saying that everything is His act and His doing. The essence of Baghavat Geetha’s Karma Yoga is this.
“Even that which is impossible for Godhead, a bodily exerted
Persistent pursuit will bring in rewards appropriate, granted!”
