66: (Purity of deeds – வினைத் தூய்மை)
[It is important that all that a minister does yield prosperity and growth to the nation in general; but those ends should have justifiable means; they must be virtuous and bring fame along with fortune. While articulation, the abiliy to speak clearly, purposely is important, it should be followed by purity and honesty in the deeds performed to build that prosperity. Hence this chapter is placed following the chapter on articulation]

துணைநலம் ஆக்கம் தருஉம் வினைநலம்
வேண்டிய எல்லாந் தரும்.
(குறள் 651: வினைத்தூய்மை அதிகாரம்)
துணைநலம் – நட்பால் நயந்தோர்கள் ஒருவர்க்கு
ஆக்கம் தருஉம் – பொருளுதவிகள் செய்வார்கள்
வினைநலம் – ஆனால் அவர்கள் செயலாற்றும் திறமே
வேண்டிய எல்லாந் – அவர்களுக்கு வேண்டியன எல்லாவற்றையும்
தரும் – தரவல்லது.
பின்பு வரப்போகும் நட்பு அதிகாரத்தில் “உடுக்கை இழந்தவன் கைபோல ஆங்கே இடுக்கண் களைவதாம் நட்பு” என்று நட்பினுக்கு இலக்கணம் கூறுவார். அத்தகைய நட்பானது துணையாகத் தக்க நேரங்களில் ஆக்கமாக (அது பொருள் வகையிலோ, மற்ற வகைகளிலோ) நலங்களை நல்கும்.
ஆனால் அத்தகு உதவி பெற்றும், ஒருவரது செயலாற்றும் திறமே அவர்களுக்கு வேண்டியன எல்லாம் கொண்டுவந்து சேர்க்கும். உழைப்பின்றி ஊதியமேது? வினையாற்றுகையில், நல்லவிதமாக, ஆற்றும் வினைகள் அறவழியில் நின்று ஆக்கத்தைத் தருவதாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்பதே இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து.
Transliteration:
thuNainalm Akkam tharuum vinainalam
vENDiya ellAm tharum
thuNainalm – Friends that stand by as staunch support
Akkam tharuum – will help with whatever financial or other helps possible
Vinainalam – But, only the purity and honesty in the execution of undertaken tasks
vENDiya ellAm – everything that somebody deserves
tharum – will give
In a later chapter on Friendship, the verse, “uDukkai izhandavan kaipOla AngE iDukkaN kaLaivadAm naTpu” defines what a friend ship is. Such friendship comes as a dependable companion and gives whatever is required to make a friend successful.
But what will bestow everything to a person is, the ability to do the deeds with purity, honesty of purpose and in the ways of accomplishing – says this verse.
“Friendship extends to another friend always a helping hand
Only the purity and ethical execution bring all that is grand”
