என்றும் ஒருவுதல் வேண்டும் புகழொடு
நன்றி பயவா வினை.
(குறள் 652: வினைத்தூய்மை அதிகாரம்)
என்றும் – எந்நாளுமே
ஒருவுதல் வேண்டும் – விலக்க வேண்டும்
புகழொடு – புகழையும்
நன்றி – நன்மையையும்
பயவா – தாராத
வினை – செயல்கள்
மற்றுமொரு எளிய குறள், ஒருவருக்கும் புகழையும், நன்மையையும் தராத செயல்களை ஒருவர் எந்நாளும் விலக்க வேண்டும் என்கிறது. இது எல்லோருமே எளிதாய் கூறும் பொருள் எனினும், இதில் வினைத் தூய்மை எங்கு வருகிறது என்று கேள்வி வருவது இயற்கை. புகழும் நன்மையும் சேர்ந்து வருவது செய்யும் வினையானது அறவழிகளில் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தாலே நடக்கும். இதுவே இக்குறளின் உள்ளுரைப் பொருள். முன்னதாக, குற்றங்கடிதல் அதிகாரத்தில், “வியவற்க எஞ்ஞான்றும் தன்னை நயவற்க நன்றி பயவா வினை” (குறள் 439) என்று இதே ஈற்றடியை வைத்து வள்ளுவர் ஒரு குறள் செய்திருக்கிறார். அக்குறளிலும் நன்றி பயவா வினையையும், தற்புகழ்ச்சியையும் விலக்கவேண்டிய குற்றங்களாகவே சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.
Transliteration:
enRum oruvudal vENDum pugazoDu
nanRi payavA vinai
enRum – Always
oruvudal vENDum – must avoid and discard
pugazoDu – fame
nanRi – good
payavA – not yielding
vinai – acts, deeds
Another simple verse that says, the acts or deeds that do not bring fame and firm good must be avoided, discarded. How then, it is connected to the purity in the deeds, is a natural question. Without the purity of thoughts to accomplish undertaken deeds and ethical execution, they will bring neither fame nor fortune. Hence the implied meaning links it to the chapter definitely. VaLLuvar has already used the same last line for a different verse in the “Avoiding faults”, some two hundred verses earlier; there he would say self-praise and that which do not yield good are discardabe facts.
