துன்பம் உறவரினும் செய்க துணிவாற்றி
இன்பம் பயக்கும் வினை.
(குறள் 669: வினைத்திட்பம் அதிகாரம்)
துன்பம் – துன்பமே
உறவரினும் – மிகவும் வந்தாலும்
செய்க – செய்யவேண்டும்
துணிவு ஆற்றி – கலங்காத உறுதியுடன், திண்மையுடன் நின்று
இன்பம் பயக்கும் – முடிவில் இன்பத்தை அளிக்கக்கூடிய
வினை – செயலை.
இறுதியில் உறுதியாக நன்மையையும், இன்பத்தையும் அளிக்கக்கூடிய ஒரு செயலைச் செய்யும் போது துன்பமே மிக்கு வந்தாலும், அதற்காக தளராமல், அச்செயலை கலங்காத உறுதியுடனும், திண்மையுடனும் நின்று செய்யவேண்டும் என்கிறது இக்குறள்.
சென்ற குறளும், இக்குறளும் உறுதியோடு வினையாற்றுதலை வலியுறுத்துகின்றன. இடையில் வரும் தடைகள் இடையறாமல் வந்தாலும், இறுதியில் விளையும் நன்மைகள் தரும் இன்பம் கருதி தளரா உறுதியோடு வினையாற்றவேண்டுவதை வலியுறுத்தும் குறள்.
Transliteration:
thunbamE uRavarinum seiga thuNivARRi
inbam payakkum vinai
thunbamE – even if the toil of trouble
uRavarinum – comes in excess
seiga – do the undertaken job
thuNivARRi – with firm resolve to see through the job
inbam payakkum – knowing when the end result is pleasure
vinai – for that undertaking.
Whatever that yields only pleasurable benefit at the end, regardless how much of toil or torment it continues to cause during the course, the undertaking must be pursued with firm resolve, says this verse.
The last verse and this verse emphasize the need for firm resolve in doing what is undertaken. If the end goal is good that will yield bliss, every toil, enroute is worth undergoing – is the message of this verse in particular.
“That which yields pleasure and bliss in the end is well worth it,
to do with firm resolve despite incessant torments while doing it”
