விடுமாற்றம் வேந்தர்க்கு உரைப்பான் வடுமாற்றம்
வாய்சோரா வன்கணவன்.
(குறள் 689: தூது அதிகாரம்)
விடு மாற்றம் – தூது சொல்லியனுப்பியதை (தம் அரசு விடுக்கின்ற தூது)
வேந்தர்க்கு – பிற அரசனிடம் (பகை அரசனிடம்)
உரைப்பான் – சொல்லும் தூதுவன்
வடு மாற்றம் – தன் பொறுப்புக்குத் தாழ்ந்த குற்றமுள்ள தூது செய்தியாக (வடு – குற்றம்)
வாய்சோரா – மறந்தும் தன் வாயில் கொள்ளாத
வன்கணவன் – உறுதியுள்ள சொற்களைப் பேசவல்லோன்
பிற அரசர்க்குத் தம்முடைய அரசின் தூதுச் செய்தியைக் கொண்டு செல்வோன் வாய் தவறியும் தன் பொறுப்புக்கும், அதன் சிறப்புக்கும் பொருந்தாத, தாழ்வான குற்றமுள்ள சொற்களைப் பேசாத உறுதியும் திண்மையும் உள்ளவனாய் இருக்கவேண்டும் என்பதை சொல்லுகிறது இக்குறள். தூதுவன் என்பது மிகவும் பொறுப்பான, மதிக்கத்தக்கவன் என்பதால், அவன் பேசுவது, அவன் மேற்கொண்ட தொழிலுக்குச் சற்றும் தாழ்வுறாமல் இருக்கவேண்டும் என்பதைச் வலியுறுத்துகிற குறள்
Transliteration:
viDumARRam vEndarkku uraippAn vaDumARRam
vAisOrA vankaNavan
viDumARRam – the messages sent by his (the messenger) government
vEndarkku – for the opponent ruler
uraippAn – conveys that (message)
vaDumARRam – what is lowly to the standard set for an emissary
vAisOrA – even forgetfully not slipping through his mouth
vankaNavan – a person of firm words.
An emissary that carries messages for an opponent ruler on behalf of his ruler shall not speak words of blemish, substandard to the the important nature of his position and stay firm in that. An emissary is a respectable and responsible person and his words shall also be so, says this verse.
“Emissaries that carry the meesage for their ruler to opponent ruler
Shall never speak words of blemish even forgetfully to be a spoiler”
