கைவேல் களிற்றொடு போக்கி வருபவன்
மெய்வேல் பறியா நகும்.
(குறள் 774: படைச்செருக்கு அதிகாரம்)
கைவேல் – தன் கையிலுள்ள வேலினை
களிற்றொடு – தன்னை எதிர்நோக்கி வரும் யானையினைக்
போக்கி – கொல்ல எறிந்துபின்னர்
வருபவன் – தம்மீது வரும் மற்றொரு யானையின் ( மீது எறிய )
மெய்வேல் – தன்னுடைய உடம்பில் பாய்ந்த எதிரியின் வேலை
பறியா – பறித்து எறிவதற்கு
நகும் – மகிழ்வான் (பெருமை மிக்க வீரன்)
தம்மீது பாய்ந்து வரும் யானையின்மேல் தம் கையிலுள்ள வேலை எறிந்துபின்னர், வரும் மற்றொரு யானையின்மீது எறிய மற்றொரு வேலை தேடி, தன் உடலில் பாய்ந்த எதிரியின் வேலைப் பறித்து எறிவதை மகிழ்வுடன் செய்வான், பெருமைமிக்க வீரன் என்று சொல்லி வீரர்க்கு பெருமை தரத்தக்கச் செயலைச் சொல்லுகிறது இக்குறள்.
Transliteration:
kaivEl kaLiRRoDu pOkki varubavan
meivEl paRiyA nagum
kaivEl – the spear that he wields in his hand
kaLiRRoDu – the elephant that comes charging
pOkki – after throwing to kill that elephant
varubavan – to kill another elephant that comes charging
meivEl – the spear that has pierced his body
paRiyA – plucking, pulling it away
nagum – gladly
After killing the elephant that came charging with the spear in his hand, to kill another charging elephant, a valiant soldier, would gladly pluck and pull the spear of enemy that has pierced his own body, glady. Such is the glory of a true valiant. This verse is about what brings pride to a valiant soldier.
“After killing a charging elephant, to kill another, a warrior of pride
would pull the spear pierced in his body gladly, to charge in stride”
