பெரியாரைப் பேணாது ஒழுகிற் பெரியாரால்
பேரா இடும்பை தரும்.
(குறள் 892: பெரியாரைப் பிழையாமை அதிகாரம்)
பெரியாரைப் – ஆற்றல் மிக்க மாணுயர்ந்தாரை
பேணாது ஒழுகிற் – மதியாமல் இருப்பின்
பெரியாரால் – அவ்வாறு இருப்பது, அப்பெரியாரால்
பேரா இடும்பை – நீங்காத துன்பத்தைத்
தரும் – தந்துவிடும்
மாண்பு மிக்க பெரியோரை மதியாமல் இருப்பவர்க்கு அப்பெரியோராலேயே நீங்காத துன்பம் வந்துறும், என்பது இக்கருள் கூறும் கருத்து. மிகவும் எளிமையானவொன்றுதான். நாலடியாரில், இதே தலைப்பில் உள்ள அதிகாரத்தில் இக்குறள் கருத்தினையொட்டிய பாடல் இதோ.
பொறுப்பரென் றெண்ணிப் புரைதீர்ந்தார் மாட்டும்
வெறுப்பன செய்யாமை வேண்டும் – வெறுத்தபின்
ஆர்க்கும் அருவி யணிமலை நன்னாட
பேர்க்குதல் யார்க்கும் அரிது.
இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து, மாணுடை பெரியோர், தம்மை மதியார்க்கு துன்பத்தை வஞ்சத்தால் விளைவிப்பார் என்பதல்ல. அவர்க்கு இழைக்கப்படும் தாமாகவே இழைப்பவர்க்கு வந்துறும் என்பதே இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து. அதேபோல், மாண்பிலார்க்கு செய்யப்படும் அவமதிப்பு துன்பத்தைப் பொதுவாகத் தருவதில்லை என்றும் உணரலாம்.
Transliteration:
periyAraip pENAdu ozugiR periyArAl
pErA iDumbai tharum
periyAraip – to the respectable great
pENAdu ozugiR – if does not show respect
periyArAl – from them
pErA iDumbai – persistent misery
tharum – will be given.
A simple verse, that says, those who don’t respect the respectable great will suffer greatly with persistent misery that the great will give in return. Though the verse implies as if that the great are revengeful, it is quite contrary to that. Offending the great has an effect of bringing misery on it’s own, not that they have to even think about it. Likewise disrespect to despicable does not bring such misery.
“Not being respectful to the great being careless
shall bring ill wiith the powers of great, peerless”
