மனையாளை அஞ்சும் மறுமையி லாளன்
வினையாண்மை வீறெய்த லின்று.
(குறள் 904: பெண்வழிச்சேறல் அதிகாரம்)
மனையாளை அஞ்சும் – தம் மனைவிக்கு அஞ்சி நடுங்குகிறவன்
மறுமையிலாளன் – மறுமையில் சிறப்பு பொருந்திய பிறப்பிலாதவன்
வினையாண்மை – அத்தகையவனின் வினை ஆற்றும் திறமை
வீறு – பெருமை
எய்தல் இன்று – பெறுதல் என்பது இல்லை.
வீட்டையே ஆளத்தெரியாதவனுக்கு வெளியே செய்யும் வினைகளை ஆளுவது எங்கனம் என்ற கேள்வியை முன் வைக்கிறது இக்குறள். தம்முடைய மனைவிக்கு அஞ்சுகின்றவன், மறுமையிலும் சிறப்பாக இல்லறம் ஆளுவது இயலாதாம். அத்தகையோன் வினையாள்வது, வினை வெற்றிகரமாக முடிவுறாத நிலையே உருவாக்கும். அவ்வினையாள் திறமையால் பெருமையும் பெறுதல் என்பது இல்லை.
வீட்டில் எலியாக இருப்பின், வெளியில் புலியாக எப்படி வாழ முடியும்? – என்பதே இக்குறளின் உள்ளுரை கேள்வி.
Transliteration:
manaiyALai anjum maRumaiyi lALan
vinaiyANmai vIReida linRu
manaiyALai anjum – One who fears his wife
maRumaiyilALan – the one who will not have glorious rebirth also
vinaiyANmai – his ability to handle the deeds given to him
vIRu – praiseworthy glory
eidal inRu – does attain that (what? – glory)
How a person that is not able to govern his household, can manage the deeds assigned to him, outside his home, successfully? – a similar question is the main theme of this verse. A person that fears his wife cannot possibly be successful in managing his household, in his successive births too. They will not complete what they undertake successfully either; and they will not get glory of accomplishments either.
After all a mouse in the house cannot become a tiger outside!
“That who fears wife is not worthy of rebirths; whatever they undertake.
They are not successful to get the glory either even if actively partake”
