இமையாரின் வாழினும் பாடிலரே இல்லாள்
அமையார்தோள் அஞ்சு பவர்.
(குறள் 906: பெண்வழிச்சேறல் அதிகாரம்)
இமையாரின் – கண்களை இமைக்காத வானத்து தேவர்களைப்போல்
வாழினும் – வாழும் பேறு பெற்றாலும்
பாடு இலரே – பெருமை இல்லாதவரே
இல்லாள் – மனைவியாள்
அமை ஆர் தோள் – அழகுபொருந்திய தோள்களைக் கண்டு
அஞ்சுபவர் – பயப்படுகின்றவர்.
இல்லாளின் வனப்பு மிகுந்த மூங்கிலைபோலாம் தோள்களைக் கண்டு அஞ்சுகிறவர், வானத்து தேவர்களைப் போல வாழ்ந்தாலும், பெருமை இல்லாதவரே என்கிறது இக்குறள். அழகிய தோளைக் குறித்ததற்கு என்ன காரணம் என்றால், வீரம் பொருந்திய வீரர்களையும் வென்றிருந்தாலும், மனைவியின் அழகியதோளுக்கு அஞ்சுவதை நையாண்டியாகக் குறிக்கத்தான்.
வாழ்வில் சிறந்து வானத்து வாழ்வு என்பதை வள்ளுவரே பல குறள்களில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார். குறிப்பாக “வையத்துள் வாழ்வாங்கு வாழ்பவன் வான் உறையும் தெய்வத்துள் வைக்கப் படும்.” என்ற குறளை நினைவில் கொள்ளலாம். ஒருவர் வாழ்வாங்கு வாழ்வது என்பது அவர் நல்ல மனையறம் காத்து வாழும் வாழ்க்கையுமாம்.
Transliteration:
imaiyArin vAzhinum pADilarE illAL
amaiyArthOL anju bavar
imaiyArin – Like the heavenly beings that don’t blink their eyes
vAzhinum – even if a person lives like that
pADu ilarE – they will not be glorious
illAL– if the wife’s
amai Ar thOL – seeing the beautiful shoulderes
anjubavar – a person fears immensely
A person that is fearful of his wife blessed with bamboo like beautiful shoulders, even if he has the life of heavenly beings, there is no glory in that – says this verse. There is a subtle sarcasm in mentioning the beautiful shoulders of the wife in this verse. A person may be victorious against many strong-shouldered warriors, but if he is not able to stand up and is fearful of his wife, it is shameful is what is hinted in this verse.
“Though may be blessed with a grand life of celestial,
Being fearful of wife of elegant shoulders is shameful”
