பெண்ணேவல் செய்தொழுகும் ஆண்மையின் நாணுடைப்
பெண்ணே பெருமை உடைத்து.

பெண்ணேவல் – பெண்களிடம் ஆணையேற்று அதைப் போற்றி
செய்தொழுகும் – அவர்களின் ஆணைபடி செயல்களைச் செய்யும்
ஆண்மையின் – ஆண்மகனின் கேலிக்குரிய ஆண்மையினைவிட
நாணுடைப் – நாணத்தைப் போற்றும்
பெண்ணே – பெண்ணே
பெருமை உடைத்து – பெருமை கொள்ளும்படியானவளாம்
மீண்டும் காலத்தோடு ஒவ்வாத ஒரு குறள். இவ்வதிகாரத்தில் உள்ள பெரும்பான்மையான குறள்கள் பெண்களுக்கு ஏற்புடையனவாக இராதன. பெண்கள் இல்லத்தரசி என்ற பெருமையுடன் அடுப்பறைகளில் முடங்கியிருந்த நாட்களெல்லாம், மிகவும் தொலைவிலுள்ள கடந்த காலமாகி, வீடுகளில் மட்டுமல்லாது, பணியிடங்களிலும், அரசியலிலும் பெருமளவு செல்வாக்கும், பணி ஏவும் பொறுப்புகளும் அவர்கள் பெற்றிருக்கிறார்கள், பெறுகிறார்கள், பெறுவார்கள், என்கிற காலத்தின் கட்டாயம் இருக்கும்போது, இக்குறளின் கருத்து பொதுவாக ஒப்புக்கொள்ள இயலாத ஒன்றே. மேலும் சமவுரிமைக்கான குரல்கள் வருங்காலங்களில் ஓங்கிக்கொண்டேதான் வரும் என்பதும் கண்கூடு.
குறள் கூறும் கருத்து, பெண்களின் ஆணைகளையேற்று, அவற்றைப் போற்றி பணிசெய்யும் ஆண்மக்களின் நையாண்டிக்குரிய ஆண்மையினைவிட, நாணத்தை போற்றுகின்ற பெண்களின் பெருமையே போற்றத்தக்கதாம். பெண்கள் என்பதை இல்லாள் என்று வீட்டுத் தலைவியின் மீது ஏற்றி, பல உரைகள் சொன்னாலும், இக்குறள் பொதுவாக எல்லாப் பெண்களையும் குறிப்பதாகத்தான் உள்ளது.
Transliteration:
peNNEval seidozhugum ANmaiyin nANuDaip
peNNE perumai uDaiththu
peNNEval – those who take orders from females
seidozhugum – and dutyfully carry out those orders
ANmaiyin – more than laughable manhood
nANuDaip – having modesty and dignity
peNNE – such females
perumai uDaiththu – excel in glory
Yet another verse that is not suitable for the present times. The general tone of this chapter, more specifically this verse is not likely to be agreeable to women at large. In most places from home to high political positions, women are aptly fitting and filling in these days, doing amicable, at par and even above part work compared to men, these days.
The verse says, More than a laughable and shameful manhood of men that carry out order by women as the most important and sancrosant, a women’s modesty and dignity are more glorious and praise worthy. Though come commenters say “women”, the verse does not seem to make such references implied.
“Women of modesty and dignity are more entitled for glory and esteem
than the men that live to carry out the order of women without shame”
