அறவினையும் ஆன்ற பொருளும் பிறவினையும்
பெண்ஏவல் செய்வார்கண் இல்.
(குறள் 909: பெண்வழிச்சேறல் அதிகாரம்)
அறவினையும் – அறச்செயல்களும்
ஆன்ற பொருளும் – வினையாற்றுவதால் கிடைக்கும் பொருள் வளமும்
பிறவினையும் – மற்றவினைகளை செய்வதும்
பெண் ஏவல் – பெண்கள் ஏவும் செயல்களிலேயே தம்மை ஈடுபடுத்திக்கொண்டு
செய்வார்கண் – அவற்றைமட்டுமே செய்வதில் முனைப்பாக இருப்பவரிடம்
இல் – இராது.
இவ்வதிகாரத்தைப் படிக்கும்போது, பெண்களைவிட, பெண் மோகத்தில் உழலும் ஆடவர்களைத்தான் இடித்துரைக்கிறது மீண்டும் மீண்டும். சிலவற்றைப் பற்றி மீண்டும் மீண்டும் சொல்வது, உள்ளத்தில் உரைப்பதற்காக என்று கொள்ளலாம்.
குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து இதுதான்: ஒரு பெண்ணின் வயப்பட்டு அவளிடும் ஏவல்களை மட்டும் செய்வோர்க்கு, அறச்செயல்களும், மற்ற செயல்களும், தவிர தேவையான பொருள் வளமும் கிட்டாது.
வினையாற்றினால் விளைச்சல் எப்போதுமே உண்டு. ஆனால் இக்குறள் சொல்வது என்ன? பெண்ணேவலையே பேறாகக் கொண்டோர்க்கு, அவர் செய்கையில், அறச்செயல்களின் பயனும் இல்லை என்கிறார் முதலில். இரண்டாவதாக அவருடைய செயல்களால், பொருளீட்டமும் கிடையாது. தவிர பொதுவாக, வினையாற்றுபவர்களுக்கு அவர்கள் நன்றாக அவ்வினையாற்றலால் பிறவினைகளை ஆற்றக்கூடிய கிடைக்கும் வாய்ப்புகளும் கிடைக்கும். பெண்ணேவல் செய்பவர்களுக்கு அதுவும் கிடைக்காது. இதைத்தான் இக்குறள் சொல்லவருகிறது.
Transliteration:
aRavinayum AnRa poruLum piRavinaiyum
peNEval seivArkaN il
aRavinayum – to do virtuous deeds
AnRa poruLum – the wealth needed to effectively do them
piRavinaiyum – and to do other deeds
peNEval – servitude of women
seivArkaN – those who are indulging in only
il – is not in them (to do the above)
While reading this chapter it is very obvious that it condemns the men that are in perpetual desire of women again and again. Perhaps it is done to stress and etch the thought in men, cautioning them not to indulge spend all their time in the pursuit of women.
A person who is in control of a woman, doing what ever she wills or orders, can not have the use of virtuous deeds, or the weath earned; they will not even have other deeds to do.
What could this verse possibly mean? Most efforts yield fruitful results; but serving a woman and spending the life in her servitude, shall not have the fruits of virtuous deeds, in the first place. Secondly, there is no wealth earned through the work either. When somebody does something so well, usually they get the opportunity for more work; but in this case, even that is not likely to be there.
“Those who are forever in womens’ total servitude
shall accomplish none, nor have wealth required”
