கவறும் கழகமும் கையும் தருக்கி 
இவறியார் இல்லாகி யார்.

கவறும் – பகடையாட்டத்தையும்
கழகமும் – அதை ஆடும் இடத்தையும்
கையும் – அதற்கான கைத்திறமையும்
தருக்கி – மேற்கொண்டார்
இவறியார் – கைவிடாதார்
இல்லாகியார் – எல்லாமிழந்து (முன்பு உளராயினும்) ஒன்றுமில்லாதவராவார்.

பகடையுறுட்டியாடும் சூதையும், அதை ஆடுமிடத்தையும், அதற்கான திறனையும் அடைந்தவர்கள், அதையே முதலாக மேற்கொண்டவர்கள் அதைக் கைவிடார். அவர் முன்பு எல்லாம் உடையவராக இருப்பினும், ஒன்றுமில்லாதவராகவே ஆவார். கழகம் என்பதைச் சூதாடு களமாகச் சொன்னது சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறது.

Transliteration:

kavaRum kazhagamul kaiyum tharukki
ivaRaRiyAr illAki yAr

kavaRum – the game of dice that is gambling
kazhagamul – the place where is placed
kaiyum – the ability to play it tactfully
tharukki – one who is dispositioned to do that
ivaRaRiyAr – will not relinquish
illAkiyAr – will lose all the he has.

Those that are indulgent and glued to gambling with dice, always in such gamble-house, and spend time acquiring the skills to do it, will never relinquish such addiction; though they had much wealth before, would lose everything in due course, because of the ill of gambling. It is particularly interesting to note the word “kazhagam” being used as a place of gambling.

shall not quit the ill and shall lose all that he has, until his dismantle”
