ஒருமை மகளிரே போலப் பெருமையும்
தன்னைத்தான் கொண்டொழுகின் உண்டு.

ஒருமை மகளிரே போலப் – மனதாலும் பிறரோடு உறவுகொள்ளாத கற்புடை மகளிரைப் போல்
பெருமையும் – பெருமை கொள்வது
தன்னைத்தான் – தம்மை தாமே
கொண்டொழுகின் உண்டு – ஒழுக்க நெறிகளில் காத்துகொண்டு ஒழுகும் மாந்தர்க்கு உண்டு.
மனதளவில்கூட பிறரோடு உறவு நினையாத கற்புடை மகளிரது பெருமையே போன்றதாம், தம்மை நல்லொழுக்க நெறிகளினின்று வழுவாது தற்காத்துக்க் கொள்ளும் பொற்புடைய மாந்தரது பெருமையும்.
சீதையின் தூய்மையை அனுமன் கண்டு வியப்பதை கம்பர் காட்சிப்படலத்தில் மிகவும் அழகாகக் கூறுகிறார், படிக்கும் வகையிலேயே பொருள் விளங்கும் சிறப்போடு! அப்பாடல்.
தருமமே காத்ததோ? சனகன் நல் வினைக்
கருமமே காத்ததோ? கற்பின் காவலோ?
அருமையே! அருமையே! யார் இது ஆற்றுவார்?
ஒருமையே, எம்மனோர்க்கு, உரைக்கற்பாலதோ?
நாலடியார் பாடலொன்றும், தம்மை ஒழுக்க நிலையில் நிறுத்தித் தற்காத்துக்கொள்வோரைப் பற்றி இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறது.
நன்னிலைக்கண் தன்னை நிறுப்பானும், தன்னை
நிலைகலக்கிக் கீழிடு வானும் நிலையினும்
மேன்மே லுயர்த்து நிறுப்பானும், தன்னைத்
தலையாகச் செய்வானும் தான்.
சிறந்த நிலையில் தன்னை நிலை நிறுத்திக் கொள்வோனும், முன் நிலையையுங் குலையச் செய்து தன்னைக் கீழ்நிலைக்கண் தாழ்த்திக் கொள்வோனும், தான் முன் நிறுத்திக்கொண்ட சி றந்த நிலையினும் மேன்மேல் உயர்ந்த நிலையில் தன்னை மேம்படுத்தி நிலை செய்து தன்னை அனைவரினும் தலைமையுடையோனாகச் செய்து கொள்வோனும், தானேயாவன்.
Transliteration:
Orumai magaLirE pOlap perumaiyum
thannaiththAn koNDozhugin uNDu
Orumai magaLirE pOlap – Like the chastity of women that don’t even think of other men
Perumaiyum – to be glorious and have greatness
thannaiththAn – for those keeping self
koNDozhugin uNDu – in virtuous conduct always, be there.
Men of of strict adherence of values and virtues will hav greatness and glory similar to a woman who doesn’t even entertain thoughts about any men other than her husband.
Though this thought seems to be biased and imply that men don’t have to have chastitiy, it is quite contrary. By saying adherence to virtues and value, it is only implied chastitiy for men too. Kambar brings out the chastity of Seetha through Hanuman in KambarAmayanam. Hanuman wonders how protected Seetha! Was it dharma? Or the good karma of Janaka? Or her own deeds? Or the celestial that protects chastity? Who could be like her to preserve purity?
“Like the chastity of a woman begets glory, greatness and pride
So are the men that adhere to values and by virtues they abide”

பொற்புடை மாந்தர்க்கும் உண்டு
