குற்றம் இலனாய்க் குடிசெய்து வாழ்வானைச்
சுற்றமாச் சுற்றும் உலகு.
(குறள் 1025: குடி செயல்வகை அதிகாரம்)
குற்றம் இலனாய்க் – தவறானவற்றைச் செய்யாமல்
குடி செய்து வாழ்வானைச் – தம்முடைய குடியினை மேன்மையுற செய்து வாழ்வானை
சுற்றமாச் – தமது சுற்றமாகக் கொள்ள விரும்பி
சுற்றும் – அவரைச் சுற்றிவரும்
உலகு – இவ்வுலகானது.
தாமும் எத்தகைய தவறான செயல்களையும் செய்யாமல் தம்முடைய குடியையும் மேன்மையுறச் செய்து வாழ்வாரைத் தம்முடைய சுற்றமாகக் கொள்ள விரும்பி அவரையே சுற்றிவருவர் உலகோர், என்பதே இக்குறள் சொல்லும் கருத்து. எளிய கருத்தை தெளிவாகச் சொல்லும் குறள்.
மேன்மையானவரை தம் வழிகாட்டியே உலகில் வாழ்வு நெறி அறிந்த எல்லோரும் கொள்ளும் ஒன்றாக இருத்தலால், பொதுவான உலக வழக்கான ஒன்றைக் குறிப்பதற்காக “உலகு” என்கிறார் வள்ளுவர்
Transliteration:
kuRRam ilanAik kuDiseidu vAzvAnaich
suRRamach suRRum ulagu
kuRRam ilanAik – Not doing wrongful deeds
kuDi seidu vAzvAnaich – one that is in pursuit of uplifting the lineage
suRRamach – to have as kith and kin
suRRum – will revolve around such person
ulagu – the world
The world will embrace and revolve around the persons that are not ever indulgent in any wrongful deeds, always in the pursuit of uplifting and making it better, says this verse. Simple thought expressed clearly and succinctly.
Exemplary people and their ways are taken role model and model respectively. To imply that general practice vaLLuvar uses the word “ulagu”.
