இன்மை எனவொரு பாவி மறுமையும்
இம்மையும் இன்றி வரும்.
(குறள் 1042: நல்குரவு அதிகாரம்)
இன்மை – பிறர்க்குக் கொடுக்கவியலாததும் தாமே துய்க்கவியலாததுமாகிய வறுமை
எனவொரு பாவி – எனப்படும் ஒரு பாவியானது
மறுமையும் – மறு பிறப்புகளிலும்
இம்மையும் -இப்பிறப்பிலும்
இன்றி வரும் – இன்பமே இல்லையென்று வரும்
இப்பிறப்பிலும், மறுபிறப்பிலுமாகிய எப்பிறப்பிலும் இன்பமே இல்லையென்றாகும், பிறர்க்குக் கொடுத்துவக்கும் இன்பமோ, தாமே துய்க்குமின்பமும் இல்லாத வறுமையில் உழல்பவர்க்கு.ஏ
அருளுடைமை அதிகாரத்தில் ஏற்கனவே “பொருளில்லார்க் கிவ்வுலக மில்லாகி யாங்கு”, (குறள் 247) என்று கூறி வறிஞர்க்கு இம்மை இல்லையென்று கூறியுள்ளார். குறுந்தொகைப் பாடலொன்றும், “ஈதலும் துய்த்தலும் இல்லோர்க் கில்” (63:1) என்று கூறுகிறது.
Transliteration:
Inmai enavoru pAvi maRumaiyum
Immaiyum inRi varum
Inmai – abject poverty to such an extent of not being able to give nor enjoy
enavoru pAvi – such a curse and a reprobate
maRumaiyum – (because of such reprobate) future births
Immaiyum – and the present birth
inRi varum – no happiness shall be there.
For those that dwell in abject poverty of neither being able to give nor enjoy, there is no happiness or pleasure either in this birth or in future births.
Earlier, in the chapter of “Being Kind”, verse 247, vaLLuvar had already said,”there is no life in this birth for those that are in poverty” Generally accepted fact is that for those who don’t have the grace of Godhead, there is no heavenly abode, and for people that have no wealth, there is no grace from anyone in this world.
“Because of the sinner that poverty is, happiness
is none, either in this or future births to harness”
